THIS ROLE EXISTS TO: (PURPOSE)
The Operator is part of a multi-discipline team that monitors plant performance, ensures a safe
working environment for capital or maintenance works and operates the plant to ensure compliance
with Melbourne Water, legislative and EPA requirements.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Operational Activities


Generating, developing and implementing ideas to optimize plant operation;
Monitor and operate primary, secondary and tertiary processes using SCADA and other systems
to ensure plant availability is maintained and facilitate necessary corrective actions as required;
 Carry out routine duties / inspections of complex equipment including a power station, high
voltage, large pumps and motors, liquid and gaseous chlorine, liquid and gaseous oxygen, ozone
and associated protection and alarm system checks ensuring all MHF and safety controls are
followed;
 Review applications to work and TRAs by maintenance providers / contractors, prepare permits
to work, isolate necessary energy sources and issue appropriate permit using Melbourne Water
procedures;
 Work closely with Melbourne Water’s maintenance contractors to allow preventative and
corrective maintenance to occur in a safe and efficient manner while meeting production
objectives;
 Carry out deliveries of various chemicals including Liquid chlorine and Oxygen following relevant
procedures;
 Investigate operational and reliability issues and implement solutions, taking into account all
possible consequences of any change once a root cause has been established;
 Liaise with stakeholders to prioritize planned and unplanned work including planning and
implementation;
 Participate in routine safety audits & safety conversations and recommend actions as required;
 Contribute to development and review of standard operating procedures and standard isolation
procedures;
 Carry out relevant water samples using supplied portable equipment, e.g. residual chlorine,
Turbidity, DO and ozone residuals and pH;
 Complete all training requirements relevant to position, e.g. MHF, HACCP, learning and develop
plans & NWP units with an aim to be to operate plant independently;
 Respond to emergency scenarios using Contingency plans, Emergency Response Plans & attend
incident investigations
 Willingness to support an out of hours availability or shift roster if required

KEY RELATIONSHIPS
Internal
This role involves daily liaison with other Operators, Lead operators/controllers, and operations
Engineers, Technicians & support officers. The role may require some liaison with members of the
Process Support team, Capital Delivery and Asset Management teams generally to undertake routine
tasks, attend workshops or carry out sampling.
The role requires a close working relationship with all personnel at ETP.
External
This role may infrequently require liaison with third party service providers and customers
SALARY RANGE:
EA - Level 5 ($74,440 - $79,243 plus 9.5% superannuation)
Melbourne Water reserves the right to remunerate people according to their ability to perform the
functions of the role based on their qualifications, skills and experience.
