Arts For Kids` Souls Camp August 5-9, 2013

Arts For Kids’ Souls Camp
August 5-9, 2013
Greetings AFKS parents! We are so excited to begin camp in a couple
weeks! Boy, do we have a special camp planned this year ---- fabric
arts, drama, music collaboration & composition, tae kwon do, yoga,
model magic, murals, problem-solving, story-telling and more! We plan
to pack in the arts and help your kiddos become more in touch with
their creative and expressive selves!
Please note the following ‘housekeeping’ items:
1. Please complete and return the following form by Friday, Aug 2.
Fax: 303-442-4752 or email: [email protected]. (insert
Parent Consent form here)
2. We have pre-arranged the four camping groups by age/grade,
however if you have a camper that you want to ensure is linked to
another, this is the time to let us know! Otherwise, groups will
remain as they are (it’s just too complicated to change things
once camp begins!). There is a waiting list of campers wanting to
join, so if your kiddo(s) won’t be able to join us, please let us know
asap!
3. Drop-off is from 8:10-8:40 with a PROMPT start time of 8:45!
Please ensure your kiddo(s) arrive on time, and especially allow
extra time Monday morning! Camp ends at 12:30 and our daily
staff meetings start promptly at 12:45.
4. Please, do NOT park in the church parking lot for drop off or
pick-up ---- those spaces are leased out during the week and will
result in tickets or towing! Please plan on dropping your kiddo(s)
off at the FUMC ‘circle’ which is accessed off of 14th Street
between Pine and Spruce. You will sign your child in and an escort
will take your child to their group. Pick-up will be the same
process ---- please be prepared with a photo ID (if asked) and an
escort will bring your child to you for sign-out. If you have
others who will be picking up your child, please ensure we have
their name/contact info, and please ask them to be prepared with
photo ID. We want your kid(s) to be SAFE!
5. It’s probably going to be hot, and we do many messy activities.
Please dress your kiddo(s) in casual, loose, non-fancy clothes!
Sandals are OK. Please sunscreen your kids as we will not be
providing that. Most of the classes are indoors, however a few
will be outdoors for no longer than 30-minute segments.
6. We will provide healthy, nut-free, (gluten-free options) midmorning snacks for all campers, however if your child needs more
or different, please feel free to pack your kiddo(s) additional
foods. Please, NO NUTS as we have several nut-allergic campers
enrolled, and please LABEL the lunch boxes/bags with your child’s
name.
7. For emergencies, you can contact us directly during camp hours at
720-244-3801 (Preston), 314-238-6456 (Betsy) or 303-8450232 (Mary, camp nurse). Otherwise, please email all questions or
comments to [email protected].
8. This year we are providing a nursery for siblings of campers who
are less than 4 years old but older than 18 months. Fee is $45
for the week and space is very limited and will be first come,
first serve, so please let us know ASAP if you need help!
9. Also this year we will be selling AFKS Camp T-shirts. We realize
that most camps give these shirts away, but since our camp is
already so low-budget, we will be selling the shirts for $10 each
(under our cost, but that’s OK!). (insert picture of shirt)
10.
A final ‘production’ and picnic will take place on Friday at
12:30-2:00. Your kiddos will demonstrate for the families the
arts they’ve participated in during the week, followed by a hotdog
cookout on the veranda! Sign-up for the picnic will be available at
the registration table, or you may email us to let us know how
many in your party will be attending. We hope you will join us in
celebrating our mighty campers’ artistic and soulful
accomplishments!
