CHAIR
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Chairperson shall prepare an agenda and preside over each SAI meeting. They shall
preside as ex-officio member of all committees and they shall co-ordinate SAI committees
involved in SAI business and activities. They shall appoint committee chairs, including a
nominating committee, as deemed necessary. They shall vote at meetings only in the event of a
tie. They shall have operational authority, in the intervals between Board meetings, to speak in
the name of the organization in emergencies, in consultation with one other Executive Board
Member (if available).
TERM COMMITMENT:
The Chair position is a two-year service position, elected in odd-numbered years at the SAI AGM
in June.
BOARD QUALIFICATIONS:
Listed in the Bylaws of Southern Alberta Intergroup:

Be regularly attending an SAI registered group, have 18 months or more of regular
attendance at meetings and 12 months or more of service at OA meetings.

Be working the Twelve Steps of OA (for at least 12 months).

Be familiar with the Twelve Traditions of OA.

Be familiar with the Twelve Concepts of OA Service.

Shall have 6 months of continuous abstinence (each person shall be the sole judge of
what his/her abstinence is).

Having been nominated and unable to meet the qualification of continuous abstinence for
6 months, but meeting all other requirements as stated above, one must be elected by
three-fourths majority vote of the board.


CO-CHAIR
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Co-Chairperson shall serve in the absence of the Chairperson. They shall act as the liaison
between member groups and the Board. The Co-Chairperson shall compile and distribute a
listing of all SAI group meetings, including time and location to all SAI members. They shall
ensure that SAI member group registrations and meeting information is current with WSO. They
shall compile as SAI Active Members Contact List to be updated and distributed quarterly to
member groups via email. This is a service provided for the groups to use at their discretion
abiding by the OA Traditions.
TERM COMMITMENT:
The Co-Chair position is a two-year service position, elected in odd-numbered years at the SAI
AGM in June.

TREASURER
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Treasurer shall maintain a chequing and savings account, if necessary, for disposal of
Intergroup funds. They shall submit financial reports each month at the Intergroup meetings.
They shall be co-signatory with two other board members or an appointee of the board. They
shall have final reports prepared and audited for the AGM. They shall perform all other duties as
prescribed in the Intergroup policy and procedures manual. Annually review the position’s job
description in the SAI policy and procedures manual and recommend updates as necessary for
the SAI June AGM.
The Treasurer is ultimately responsible for the finances of the organization. This includes the
responsibility of the accounting for all funds of the organization, reporting to the Board at each
meeting, and making records available upon request. The Treasurer is a co-signer of the bank
account with two of the following: the Chairperson, the Co-Chairperson, or the Secretary as
determined by the board. The Treasurer shall ensure that financial policies are reviewed and
necessary changes recommended as outlined in the Policies and Procedures. They shall set up
bank accounts when necessary and maintain all of SAI’s bank accounts and will also make
appointments as required to change any signing authorities. They shall ensure all SAI funds are
deposited as soon as possible after receiving them. They will also ensure all bills received are
paid within the due time limit. The Treasurer will be the holder of the deposit only debit card.

AGM in June.

messages retrieved from the voice mail. They shall also update the outgoing messages on the
answering machine as needed. They shall report to SAI every month with a summary of the
number of calls and any calls that may require notation or action. They shall report to SAI at the
AGM a summary of the years calls. Perform all other duties as prescribed in the intergroup
policy and procedures manual. Annually review the position’s job description in the SAI policy
and procedures manual and recommend updates as necessary for the SAI June AGM.

LITERATURE
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Shall supply member groups with AA and OA literature and maintain current prices, stock lists
and accounts receivable. Perform all other duties as prescribed in the Intergroup policy and
procedures manual. Annually review the position’s job description in the SAI policy and
procedures manual and recommend updates as necessary for the SAI June AGM.
The Literature Chairperson shall be responsible for ordering literature from WSO and picking up
orders from the AA Central Office for out of town groups. They shall maintain an inventory to sell
to groups within Southern Alberta Intergroup and that the inventory is recorded annually. They
must also maintain accurate accounting records. This keeps track of literature purchases and
sales including transfers to other SAI departments. They shall maintain an up to date selling
price list.
TERM COMMITMENT:
The Literature position is a two-year service position, elected in odd-numbered years at the SAI
AGM in June.

DELEGATE/ALTERNATE DELEGATE
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Delegate shall attend the Region One Assembly and the World Service Business
conference (WSBC), the number of which to be determined by WSO, Region One and finances
permitting. They shall attend all regularly scheduled Intergroup meetings. The Delegate shall be
familiar with and willing to explain the 12 Traditions and their practical use at group and
intergroup meetings. They shall ensure that Delegate policies are reviewed and necessary
changes recommended as outlined in the Policies and Procedures manual.
The Delegate shall pursue personal wellness through the 12 Steps and 12 Traditions of OA
while maintaining a food plan such that abstinence has been and continues to be achieved,
demonstrated through physical recovery as well as emotional and spiritual recovery. They shall
support the pursuit of recovery in all other members of OA and help other members maintain
recovery. They shall attend and represent SAI at Region One and World Service business
meetings whenever possible. At such meetings, they will vote according to their conscience on
motions knowing that the intergroup they are representing has confidence and trust in them to
vote appropriately. The Delegate will present an oral and written report to the intergroup upon
their return home from such meeting, including, receipts and the final accounting, the repayment
of the advance and provide receipts for reimbursement where necessary. The Delegate shall be
available to do whatever service they can in the intergroup to promote the understanding of all
levels of OA service within the fellowship, and to promote the 12 Steps and 12 Traditions.

Regional representative/alternate shall meet qualifications and requirements as outlined
and defined in the Region One bylaws, and as required for election to the board by
Article IV, Section 4, of these bylaws.


MEDIA LIBRARIAN
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Media Librarian maintains and operates a library of CD’s for the purpose of lending to the
membership of SAI regional groups. Should any cost be incurred in the pursuit of lending, the
Media Librarian will seek a decision from SAI as to what, if any, cost should be charged to the
person requesting the CD’s. Perform all other duties as prescribed in the intergroup policy and
procedures manual. Annually review the position’s job description in the SAI policy and
procedures manual and recommend updates as necessary for the SAI June AGM.
TERM COMMITMENT:
The Media Librarian position is a one-year service position, elected in at the SAI AGM in June.

WEBMASTER
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Webmaster maintains the SAI website to allow groups to communicate events and news as
well as to provide newcomers with information regarding meetings and the program of
Overeaters Anonymous. The Webmaster will maintain a committee to review changes to the
website and assist with requests for information from members and the public. They will assist
groups in changing their meeting information on the WSO website (www.oa.org). The
Webmaster will promote the website at meetings, marathons and retreats. Perform all other
duties as prescribed in the intergroup policy and procedures manual. Annually review the
position’s job description in the SAI policy and procedures manual and recommend updates as
necessary for the SAI June AGM.

RETREAT AND MARATHON
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Retreat & Marathon Coordinator shall encourage and facilitate the organization of retreats,
marathons and literature studies. They shall serve as a liaison between retreat & marathon
organizers and SAI. The coordinator shall provide guidance on WSO and SAI retreat and
marathon policies and procedures. They shall assist in the circulation of retreat and marathon
information as required and approved by SAI. The coordinator shall provide a written monthly
report to SAI on area retreats and marathons. As well, they shall provide retreat and marathon
information for the telephone line, website and individual inquiries. Perform all other duties as
prescribed in the intergroup policy and procedures manual. Annually review the position’s job
description in the SAI policy and procedures manual and recommend updates as necessary for
the SAI June AGM.

ARCHIVIST
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The archivist builds, maintains and keeps in his/her possession, a collection of materials, printed
or otherwise, which have been generated by members of the OA fellowship in the Southern
Alberta Intergroup and which are deemed to be of concern or interest to SAI and sanctioned by
it.
TERM COMMITMENT:
The Archivist position is a one-year service position, elected at the SAI AGM in June.

PUBLIC INFORMATION
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Handle requests for information about OA from local media and furnish speakers for non-OA
organizations following the Twelve Traditions of OA. Under the direction of the Twelve
Traditions, inform the professional and public communities about OA. Perform all other duties as
prescribed in the Intergroup policy and procedures manual. Annually review the position’s job
description in the SAI policy and procedures manual and recommend updates as necessary for
the SAI June AGM.
The Public Information (PI) Chairperson shall handle requests for information about OA from
individuals, institutions, media or other organizations that have placed these requests. Under
the direction of the 12 Traditions, they will inform the professional and public communities about
OA. The PI Chairperson shall attempt to furnish speakers for the community groups/institutions
when requests for such are made. They will be familiar with the “Hospitals, Institutions, and
Professionals (HIP) Service Manual” and the “Public Information Service Manual” to ensure that
correct procedures are being followed for the Public Information Chairperson position. They will
ensure any committee volunteer/speaker etc. from within OA has also familiarized themselves
with said guidelines. The PI Chairperson shall submit a written monthly report to SAI regarding
any Public Information requests during that month or to enlist the support of members to carry
out public information work.
