CEMS vs PEMS

Hardware Analyser
vs
Software Analyser
www.technologyedge.biz
What is it

Have you ever faced an analyser failure that
requires a plant shut down to repair

Do you regularly struggle with issues related to
calibration gas, zero check, span check etc.

If yes, we may have a solution for you

What is it

We offer a Patented Software Analyser which
can “Calculate & Predict” the parameter to be
measured without physically measuring it

How does it work?

See the next slide for a summary

Or, if you want full technical details, you can look
up Patent # 8,768,664 on the internet

How it works
The example below will explain how it works:
 If you are measuring NOx (Oxides of Nitrogen), the
Software Analyser will take inputs from your
process which affect the NOx formation e.g.






Fuel flow rate
Fuel BTU
Air Flow rate
Combustion Temperature
Etc.
Based on these inputs, it will “Calculate &
Predict” the NOx

Example of Software Analyser
Use
CEMS (Continuous Emissions Monitoring System)


If you maintain a hardware CEMS for NOx, CO,
CO2 etc., you already know that it’s a struggle to
keep it running, see the next slide for details
The Software Analyser (known as PEMS –
Predictive Emissions Monitoring System) can do the same job
without all the complications, see the next slide
for details

Comparison
Hardware Analysers:
 Are physically installed in the field
 Actually measure the concentration e.g. NOx
 Are the primary source of information
Software Analysers:
 Are not physically installed in the field
 “Calculate & Predict” using other process
parameters
 Are the secondary source of information

Uses of Software Analyser
Software Analysers can be used for:



Environmental regulatory requirements
Some hazardous environments which are risky
for personnel
Selected applications where hardware analysers
can’t be repaired without a plant shut down

Recap

Software analysers are approved by regulatory
agencies e.g. US EPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency)

Software analysers have lower capital, operating
& maintenance cost

Software analysers are simple & reliable
