South West Metro ‘Robertson Gardens’ PIRATES announce four(4) year sponsorship deal with Robertson Gardens ‘Comfort Inn & Suites’ accommodation and conference and events centre- 281 Kessels Rd Nathan. On Wednesday 27th April 2011 the South West Metro PIRATES Basketball Association held its annual Queensland Basketball League (QBL) Season launch at the venue of its new naming rights Sponsor – Robertson Gardens. The venue was decked out in the PIRATES Gold and Purple team colors with flags displaying the new sponsorship agreement. Steve Ryan (General Manager) of Robertson Gardens stated that “they are very excited to enter into this 4 year agreement with a very locally based sporting organisation which competes in the state wide competition at the highest level”. “The PIRATES have enjoyed great success in recent years with both the Mens and Womens teams regularly competing in the playoffs and Robertson Gardens wants to share and reward that success with this partnership.” The season opening event was a great success with the players in the Development League and QBL teams being presented with their playing singlets for 2011 and an opportunity for the strong South West supporter group and volunteers to meet with the Robertson Gardens staff including Michelle AllsoppDirector of Sales and Marketing and the heads of each of the Robertson Gardens business units. Certainly it was an opportunity for the new sponsor to showcase its conference and events facilities in over 10 acres of the Robertson Gardens grounds. The D-League games will commence at 3.00pm and the QBL Womens game at 5pm and Mens tip Off is at 7.00pm. All Pirates games are held at the Hibiscus Sports Complex Klummp Rd Upper Mt Gravatt. There is a long and fierce rivalry between the Pirates and the Rollers with all teams featuring current and past WNBL and NBL players such as Pirates -Brendan Teys, Nate Niesler, Steve Broom (Mens) and Jess Wallis in the Womens. Whilst the Rollers Men have got Scott McGregor and ‘ Australian Boomer’ Adam Gibson on their Roster in 2011.
