Small Grant Guidance Ending Gang and Youth Violence (EGYV) The Ending Gangs and Youth Violence small grants programme is supported by funding from the Police and Crime Commissioner. Its aim is to help people develop or sustain new and exciting ideas in their community that aim to end gang involvement and youth violence, and to encourage local grass roots organisation find solution to issues that impact on their local communities. It is targeted at groups working in Meadows, St Anns, Radford, Basford or Bulwell areas of Nottingham city. If you have already received funding direct from the Police and Crime Commissioner from the small grants fund to deliver your activity you cannot apply for this funding. If your application for funding is for a different project or to deliver the same activity but to a different set of people or in a different area then you can apply. There is an expectation that your project will work along side relevant partners. EG: Vanguard Plus multi agency team, Public health , social care providers, EYV voluntary sector network.. You will also need to have put some thought into how you measure success. What types of activities will be funded? The type of projects, events or activities for which funding can be applied for should include one or more of the following areas of work: Work with individual young people: Awareness raising activities or projects that are working to preventing knife crime particularly with young people from the ages of 11-18 years Activities that result in a reduction in / cessation of violent offending Activities that demonstrate successful engagement with support services (e.g. mental health treatment, substance misuse treatment, training, parent support classes) Engagement that encourages young people back into education, training or into employment. Gender specific work: Work with young women developing and exploring healthy relationships Work with young women to increased self-esteem and well-being. Work with young men, looking at healthy relationships and life style choices. Community impact: Projects that Increase community engagement, identifying local solutions , building a sense of safety. 1 Who is eligible to apply for funding? Most community and voluntary organisations and groups within the city boundary are eligible to apply for funding. If you intend to work with children under 8 years of age you should check with Ofsted whether you need to register (see www.ofsted.gov.uk for more information). Contact the Families Information Service for help and support with the registration process on 0800 458 4114. You must also have the following in place; A constitution or set of written rules which set out your aims and objectives. This must also contain a dissolution clause that states any assets purchased with grant funding will be kept for community use should your group come to an end or close. An Equalities policy or statement. A Safeguarding policy or statement. A bank or building society account in the groups name with at least two unrelated signatories. Annual accounts for groups over 12 months old. A 6 month cash flow for groups under 12 months old showing predicted income and expenditure. How much can I apply for? You can apply for up to £1,500. If your project or activity costs more than this, please tell us where you will get the rest of the money to support it. What will the funds support? The fund will support costs like the examples below. In all cases the costs must relate directly to the activity you are providing. Rent Equipment The cost of using premises to deliver your project or to hire a venue for an event Purchase of materials and / or hire of equipment to deliver your project / event Publicity Production of a leaflet or newsletter to advertise the activities you are undertaking Expenses Travel / parking for staff and volunteers delivering activities (specified pence per mile) Necessary Courses that you intend to offer volunteers and / or staff Training Admin costs Insurance and membership costs, general stationery for running the activity Salaries Staffing costs for additional hours / new posts to deliver the activity (inc. recruitment) Support Additional specific support that may be needed (e.g. translation costs) 2 What will the funds not support? The fund cannot be used to support; Individuals Activities where making profit is a primary aim Statutory organisations or private businesses Activities where the primary purpose is to promote religious beliefs or where people are excluded on religious grounds. We can fund religious organisations to work with others and to develop community cohesion. Political groups or groups promoting political activities Charitable or fund raising activities Groups / organisations where the majority of the membership live outside the City Council boundary (You may be required to produce a statistical breakdown of your membership by area) Activities that take place outside the City Council boundary Costs you owed or promised to pay before your application was approved (retrospective costs) Projects that will take more than 12 months to complete Grant making bodies applying for funding to redistribute to individuals or groups Costs associated with foreign travel What happens next Your group completes the application form giving an outline of your idea and its cost. Send in the application with your constitution, copy of recent accounts and relevant Policies (see application form for details) by the deadline of We assess your applications and your project based on how well it fits with our themes and priorities, how much local benefit the project will have, what difference your project will make to the lives of local people, your ability to deliver the project and whether it offers good value for money UNDER £500 OVER £500 Decisions on requests for under £500 made on the strength of the written application Short listed applications over £500 will be invited to do a short presentation to the grants panel in a dragons den type presentation Successful applications will have 12 months to deliver their project 3 Sources of help If you need help to complete the application form please contact NCVS on 0115 934 8400 or e-mail [email protected] .To speak to a Development Officer. Take into consideration the costs we can support and the level of funding that is available, ensure you have thought your activity through and have considered how you will monitor your success. Make sure you leave plenty of time before your activity is due to start when you apply as it can take some time to process an application.
