Position Purpose
Reporting to the Queensland Trade and Investment Commissioner – North America you will represent the interests
of Queensland in North America (United States of America, Canada & Mexico) through the identification,
promotion and facilitation of opportunities in some of Queensland’s key industry sectors: mining, energy,
construction, engineering, technology, and agriculture.
Reporting relationship/s
This role reports to the Queensland Trade and Investment Commissioner – North America and to the Deputy
Commissioner – North America. TIQ’s North America Office is part of the international network of TIQ Offices,
which is overseen by the General Manager of the International Operations Division, Trade & Investment
Queensland
More about your key responsibilities:









Represent and advocate for the interests of Queensland in the North American market by initiating and
managing trade activities and supporting investment activities when needed
Assist and support the Queensland Trade and Investment Commissioner - North America in maximising
economic development outcomes for Queensland in North America and fulfil the key responsibilities of
this position under his or her guidance and by senior TIQ staff.
Undertake market research to identify market trends and emerging business opportunities in sectors of
responsibility.
Provide specific advice on current and potential trade opportunities and challenges in sectors of
responsibility to TIQ staff and to Queensland clients.
Identify, recommend and implement approved strategies for export promotion between Queensland and
the North American market.
Work with a broad range of private and public sector stakeholders to facilitate export opportunities for
Queensland companies in North America.
Plan and implement programs for visiting Queensland businesses and trade delegations to the USA,
Canada or Mexico, and actively co-ordinate and support visits by Queensland Government Ministers and
officials.
Provide strategic links with targeted businesses to deliver maximum growth and export opportunities for
Queensland.
Contribute to the development of Queensland’s trade and investment attraction strategies.

investment objectives of the agency
You have a proven track record and a network of contacts in at least one the following verticals: Energy,
Mining, Engineering or other Industrial, Agriculture or Business Consulting.
You can easily engage with established connections within Fortune 500 companies across industries in
North America
You have 5-8 years of experience in your area of expertise
You are experienced in and enjoy working in small-team environment
You understand the public sector and the economic objectives of an agency like Trade & Investment
Queensland
You love to continue to grow your network and have excellent communication skills
You enjoy the thrill of “cold-calling” to develop avenues and linkages for Queensland companies to
succeed in the North America market

You have had exposure to or direct experience with capital raising in North America

This is a Locally Engaged Staff (LES) position based in Houston, Texas, United States of America.
Terms and conditions of employment are determined by a contract of employment compliant with the
local labor laws.
Remuneration is in local currency in United States Dollar (USD).
Applicants must hold the requisite residential and work permits in the USA.
Travel will be a requirement of this role
Some after-hours work will be required for this role.
No assistance will be provided with travel for take up duty, taxation, accommodation or overseas living
allowances.
Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in either Business (with major in Marketing or International
Business), Engineering or a similar discipline
