People do care and understand. Kentucky Kinship Support Hotline email: [email protected] This hotline was established to assist relative caregivers in accessing services and problem solving issues and concerns. Last month we included tips of some ways that you can instill the first two habits in your children. This month we are including Habits 3 and 4. As a parent, you can teach these lessons and activities in a fun way and enjoy spending time with your child. These activities will help your child develop positive habits every day, every week, until they learn all the habits – to grow in their abilities and confidence – and become a leader. You may order the guide at www.stephencovey.com and click on the STORE link. Habit # 3 – Put First Things First Put FIRST Things First means to decide what is most important and take care of it first. Talk with your child about the one, most important thing they could do to help in the morning. Have them draw a picture doing that important thing. Display the picture where you and your child will see it. Have him/her put an X or maybe a sticker for each day they remember to be a leader in the morning. Habit # 4 – Think Win-Win Think Win-Win is a belief that everyone can win. It’s not me or you, it’s both of us. It’s working on a solution until both people are happy with it. Next time there’s a conflict at home; see if you and your child can think win-win. It will take a little more time in the beginning but, in the end, will be worth it. If your child is involved in the solution, he or she will be more willing to cooperate. Your way ___________________________ Their way ____________________________ Win-Win way _________________________ Display this where you and your child can see it. Talk to your child about whether they were thinking win-win that day. Source: Franklin Covey
