2017 Strength and Conditioning Expectations: Another area to consider when players look to improve their production as a player in our basketball program is strength and conditioning. Becoming stronger physically from season to season is an expectation for all players in our program. How they choose to accomplish that is up to them. The last two years we have offered a strength and conditioning program for basketball players only two times a week at the high school. This was supervised by coach Aune and Coach Bobbe. This season it has been decided for weight room scheduling purposes it makes more sense to have our basketball players register through community education and join a strength and conditioning program run by our high school weight training staff. This is the same program that the football players use and its supervised by the same weight room staff. If your son is a football player they should register for a “football player” session. If your son doesn’t play football they should register for a “non-football” player session. Click the link to register for the “non-football” athletes: https://goo.gl/wLY02l I know we have players choosing to get stronger using home gyms, or a YMCA membership, or personal trainers. These options are great for the self-motivated. So it doesn’t matter how you are getting stronger, we just expect that players get stronger, faster, and quicker from season to season. Increasing strength and conditioning not only helps improve a player’s on the court performances, but it also shows a player’s dedication and determination for self-improvement (a trait of a tough-minded person.) As part of the varsity/JV tryout process players will be tested on their strength and conditioning. We believe improvement is a result of effort.
