Except for the practice firm trade fair the main aim of the exchange is to learn and experience the way the Czechs live in their country, learn something about the culture, lifestyle, language, customs and last but not least our REGIONAL TRADITIONS!!! Pardubice is a region town with the population up to 100,000 inhabitants. It lies in the centre of East Bohemia on the confluence of the River Elbe and the River Chrudimka. The oldest preserved written reference to its existence dates back to the end of the 13th century, with Pardubice becoming a town sometime around 1340. Pardubice is very accessible by almost all modes of transport. It is an important node on the European rail network. It lies only 104 km from Prague. It even has its own airport. PROGRAMME: Friday 12 October Saturday 13 October Sunday 14 October - in the evening - arrival of Italian teachers and students - family day teachers – individual programme - meeting point – in front of the school at 9.30 a.m. THE MUSEUM OF PUPPETS Useful information: The museum was opened in 1972 in Chrudim. The private collection of Prof. Jan Malík is the base for collections of museum. The permanent exposition shows the development of puppetry in CR since the beginning till the modern history. The foreign part presents the best of the world’s puppetry. The first is Orient where you can see the shadow puppets. The exposition is in the most beautiful historical building, Mydlářův dům. The oldest puppets are from 18th century. The seasonal exposition will show the present production in the puppetry. The museum celebrates 40 years from the origin this year. So the buildings and expositions are being rebuilt. SLATIŇANY CASTLE, KOČIČÍ HRÁDEK, BÁRA Useful information: SLATIŇANY CASTLE belongs to the most important buildings in Slatiňany in Chrudim. It is located in the southwestern outskirts of the town. In 2001 the castle was proclaimed as a cultural monument. From 1761 to 1945 it was owned by family of Auersperg. In 1950 a horse museum was built. KOČIČÍ HRÁDEK is a miniature of the castle, which was built in 19th century by princess Vilemina Auersperg. It is situated in a forest behind the Slatiňany park. BÁRA is a wooden observation tower built in 2009. Monday 15 October CITY HALL meeting point – in front of the city hall at 8.45 a.m. official audience by the city mayor at 9 a.m short presentation about Pardubice in English at 9.30 a.m. OLD TOWN TOUR in Italian, from 10.30 to 12 a.m. INDIVIDUAL LUNCH from 12 to 1.30 p.m. LOCAL BREWERY - Pivovar Pernštejn meeting point – in front of the brewery at 2 a.m. the tour lasts 1.5 hours and involves tasting of beer (teachers) and non-alcoholic drinks (students) Useful information: Tradition of brewing industry dates back to 14th century but the building of the brewery was built in 1871 by Pardubice joint-stock brewery. They used to produce the strongest dark beer on the continent Porter (19%). Only 1930´s saw the top of beer production with 100 000 hectolitres a year. Later on the state became the owner of the brewery until 1993. Tuesday 16 October GINGERBREAD WORKSHOP meeting point – at school at 8.30 a.m. presentation on gingerbread production decorating gingerbread LUNCH IN SCHOOL CANTEEN from 11 to 12.30 a.m. TRIP TO KUNĚTICKÁ HORA CASTLE meeting point – in front of the school at 13 p.m. Useful information: The castle Kunětická is not so far from Pardubice. “Hora” means “mountain”.Why is so small hill called mountain? Because all around the Pardubice is just one big plane and Kunětická hora is the only one hill in this landscape. So it seems to be really high. There are many events which you can visit in surroundings of Kunětická hora. For example- opening ceremonies, burning of witches, summer theatre, festival of crafts, musical festivals, children’s days. Wednesday 17 October PRAGUE - meeting point – in front of the school at 7 a.m. Useful information: Prague is the capital and largest city of the Czech Republic and fourteenth largest city in the European Union. The city has about 1.3 million people, while its metropolitan area is estimated to have a population of nearly 2.0 million. Prague has been a political, cultural, and economic centre of central Europe. Founded during the Romanesque and flourishing by the Gothic and Renaissance eras, Prague was then also the capital of the Holy Roman Empire. Prague is home to a number of famous cultural attractions, many of which survived the violence and destruction of twentieth century Europe. Main attractions include the following: Prague Castle ● the Charles Bridge Old Town Square ● the Jewish Quarter the Lennon Wall ● Petřín hill Prague has more than ten major museums, many theatres, galleries, cinemas, and other historical exhibits. A modern public transportation system connects the city. Also, Prague is home to a wide range of public and private schools, including the famous Charles University. In 2011, Prague was the sixth most visited city in Europe. Thursday 18 October CRUISE DOWN THE RIVER ELBE meeting point – at the steamboat anchorage at 10.40 a.m. Useful information: This steamboat was built in 2001 and modernized in 2011. Its length is 27,2o m and it can carry up to 75 people. You can find a restaurant on its board as well. It goes down the river Elbe to village Kunětice and back to Pardubice, which takes 3 hours. Other important tradition in our region is its industry. Our town has a large number of industrial companies. In the 19th century engineering and food-processing companies began to spring up here. In the 20th century they were joined by the chemical and electrical engineering industry. Pardubice experienced a dynamic growth. The chemical industry was represented primarily by Synthesia, which developed the world-renowned plastic explosive Semtex. The synonymous one was Tesla with the electrical engineering industry. Today the former site of Tesla named Foxconn CZ employs about 5000 people and is one of the largest manufacturers of computers in Europe. Friday 19 October REGIONAL PRACTICE FIRMS TRADE IN OUR SCHOOL Useful information: 16 years of tradition up to 20 participating practice firms a year foreign practice firms participation (Germany, Italy) LUNCH IN THE SCHOOL CANTEEN from 11 a.m. – 12 a.m. Other important tradition: Ice hockey has been played in Pardubice since the beginning of 20th century. Organised hockey was founded in Pardubice by Vilém Weiss in 1923 when also hockey club LTC Pardubice was established. Regular competitions started in 1930. After the end of Second World War an ice rink was installed and in 1947 before Christmas a new winter sports stadium with artificial ice rink was opened. In season 1949/1950 Pardubice won in its division and managed to get to the Czech National League. Since that time the club has been present in it. Almost all matches are sold out as the people in our region are really into ice hockey. Our team won the season 2011/2012!
