Wouldn’t it be great to meet every person who lives here? ______________ (working a calculator) Well, with six billion people in this world…now, let me see..if you lived for 100 years more…365 days in a year…there, you’d have to shake hands with 164,383 people per day. You better get started! ______________ **(starting to shake hands of class members on stage (continues to shake hands through the performance working his way through the performers to the audience) ______________Let’s take a journey across the globe and see where we can go. Come travel with us to many lands as we present our show. ______________Did you know that the planet earth has 7 continents and 4 oceans? ______________Australia is the only country that is also a continent and is the smallest continent as well. ______________About 4,000 miles to the northeast of Australia in the Pacific Ocean is a small group of Islands called Samoa. ______________Agriculture is a main source of source of income for Samoa. Their biggest crops are copra, bananas, and cocoa beans. ______________What is copra? ______________Its dried coconut meat. ______________The Samoan people have a tradition of beautiful choral singing. ______________ Let’s check it out. LET’S GO! ______________Don’t they call that the “Land of Song? ______________Yes, that is because Wales is known for its solo folk singers and harpists and male choirs. ______________Well let’s go see what we can find. And take a safari adventure, wild animals galore! Obwisana Obwisana sa nana obwisana sa Obwisana sa nana obwisana sa ______________ (looking at the globe) well now we have quite a long journey across the Atlantic ocean to Central America. ______________Central America forms a land bridge between North and South America. ______________The country of Guatemala is located just south of Mexico. ______________This area was home to the Mayan people before it became a Spanish colony. ______________Now an independent country, Spanish is the national language of Guatemla, but there are still 21 Mayan languages that are spoken in only 42,000 square miles. ______________Its southern boarder is along the coast of the Pacific Ocean. Lets head to the coast for some delicious seafood! ALL: CANADA! ______________It touches the Atlantic Ocean on the east… ______________…the pacific ocean on the west… ______________… the arctic ocean on the north… ______________…and the United States on the south. ______________Before, the French and British settled Canada the land was populated by the Native American people. ______________This song tells about the land and animals surrounding the Native American people. My Paddle/Land of the Silver Birch My paddle’s keen and bright, Flashing with silver. Follow the wild goose flight, Dip, dip, and swing. Hiyiya Hiya, Hiyiya Hiya, Hiyiya hiya, ah. ______________The music of the United States is certainly a melting pot of musical styles and backgrounds… ______________…from the early Native American cultures and the European explorers to the influence of the slaves from Africa, music has reflected the energy of the people. ______________I think of Rock and Roll… ______________…And jazz and blues… ______________…and musical theatre… ______________…and spirituals. ______________We can all agree we are grateful for this land of freedom where we are free to choose our own path. America My country ‘tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing. Land where my father’s died, Land of the pilgrim pride, from every mountain side let freedom ring. ______________**(holding sore hand) Well, I guess this world is a lot bigger than I imagined. My hand is killing me and I only hit this small part of it! (waves arm across indicating audience and performers on stage) ______________Who knows, you could be practicing to be a world leader right now! ______________** who me? ______________Well eventually all of us are going to grow up and be in charge of this world of ours, in one way or another. ______________** (looking around at the other students) that’s a kind of frightening, but inspirational thought! ______________We may just look like kids now but keep an eye on us we’re the future of tomorrow!
