objectives. She briefly introduced the implementing agencies; InterCooperation and IFOAM and highlighted the MAAN project which facilitates in
increased nutrients in high yielding crops to overcome malnutrition and
nutrients deficiencies in Beer Union council of district Haripur.
Addressing to the participants she told that a baseline survey conducted in
Beer Union Council to explore the nutrition status in food dietary of women of
the area and it exposed a great shortage of nutrients in the 24 hours food
dietary of women, the MAAN project aims to increase the nutrients through
adaption of nutrient sensitive agriculture and its interventions of organic
farming in our agriculture farming system. She explicitly declared that organic
farming includes composting of organic waste material to make humus which
provides organic and inorganic nutrients to the crop plants and accelerates
nutrients availability and maintains pH of the soil to provide maximum release
of essential nutrients to the plant roots.
She further informed the participants that organic farming is an integrated
system that endeavor for agriculture sustainability and enhance soil fertility
and biological diversity and exclude or deny synthetic pesticides, antibiotics,
synthetic fertilizers, genetically modified organisms and growth hormones and
protects environment. She mentioned that organic farming is the best method
which provides both organic and inorganic nutrients to the crops which
ultimately increase the food nutrients to overcome malnutrition and nutrient
deficiencies, this session has been organized to update you about the ill effects
of malnutrition and nutrient deficiencies; poor nutrition can lead to reduced
immunity to illness, increased susceptibility to disease, impaired physical and
mental development, and reduced productivity.
The Rural Service Provider further explained that use of compost is natural way
of farming which accelerate the microbial activities to make the nutrients
available to the plant roots and is respondent to its growth and nourishment.
Compost is prepared by the organic waste products like tree leaves, shrubs,
rice bran, vegetable wastes, kitchen garden waste, crops remains, etc. the main
source of organic matter is the animal waste and extraneous material
decomposed into humus / organic matter which increase the productivity of
the soil and increased crop production on sustainable basis.
A detail discussion held on the organic farming and the session ended with a
vote of thanks.
