Case STUDY Versatility Is Key For Tudor Griffiths Group's New Plant From Finlay Central A new Terex Finlay 683 Supertrak is proving a versatile addition at Tudor Griffiths Group’s head office site in Shropshire. Supplied by Finlay Central, the machine is opening up new markets for the Group by processing woodchip material. It is also able to move around their Wood Lane site on tracks to carry out other work, including the dry screening of building sands and gravel, sizing aggregate and producing recycled aggregates. to support Tudor Griffiths Group’s waste material recycling rate at Wood Lane, currently in excess of 80 per cent, and helps reduce the amount of products going to landfill. Tony Williams of Tudor Griffiths Group, said: “We have identified woodchip as a potential, saleable product and we wanted a machine that was versatile in terms of separating wood into various sizes, whilst still being able to be used on site for the processing of aggregates and recycled stone. Situated within 200 acres on the edge of Ellesmere, near to the Welsh border, Wood Lane has been an important quarry site since the beginning of the 20th Century. Today - as well as continuing to operate as a high quality sand and gravel pit - it is the headquarters of Tudor Griffiths Group, which was established in 1864 and is a leading supplier of construction materials, building supplies, ready mixed concrete, waste management and recycling. Also located on the site is a Material Recycling Facility, a landfill and a concrete mixing plant. Renowned for its rich mineral deposits, Wood Lane has gained recognition as an important conservation area for flora and fauna. The machine is the second 683 supplied by Finlay Central to Tudor Griffiths Group and is an upgraded replacement - specified with environmental performance at the fore. It is able “Since its introduction, we have found the 683 to be very adaptable and user-friendly – with the flexibility to produce a clean, saleable product.” The Terex Finlay 683 is producing three sized products in processing wood chip, minus 5mm, 5 –16mm, and plus 16mm. The woodchip comes to the 683 for processing from Tudor Griffiths’ onsite Material Recycling Facility, and the end product is used for biomass and chip board manufacturing, as well as other recycled timber applications. The new 683 is the eighth Terex Finlay machine supplied by Finlay Central to Tudor Griffiths Group. Neil Bailey of Finlay Central, part of the Finlay Group of companies, said: “The 683 is not just a three-way split for recycling gravel, it does much more. “It is easy for the operatives to change meshes, enabling the 683 to go from one job to another quickly and efficiently. This process is supported by features such as hydraulic bottom deck tensioning to make the mesh changes easier. “The machine also has a double deck vibrating grid, which has the versatility of a sized third product off a three-way split. “Tudor Griffiths Group also chose the optional overboard magnet, which recovers a substantial amount of metals from the wood waste as it is processed – as well as crush material – providing an additional revenue stream.” A video of the plant in action at Tudor Griffiths Group can be seen at http://youtu.be/ jLXkf6KxTTM Finlay Group www.finlaygroup.com Tel. 01785 282323 Fax. 01785 282991 E-mail: [email protected] Authorised Dealers in: England and Wales
