Steps for Success with Foundations of Excellence Implement
A Suggested Project Timeline for Institutions Participating in FoE Implement
1. Institutions identify at least two FoE Implement liaisons; often these are the same as
the liaisons for the self study, but that is not necessarily the case. Let your Gardner Institute
Advisor know about any changes in liaisons (as soon as possible or by August 1).
2. Participate in a FoE Implement Orientation / Phase I webinar and have a phone
conference with your Gardner Institute Liaison (Discussion to occur following
appointment of liaisons or by mid-August)

The FoE Implement orientation discussion should involve the liaisons and any key
institutional stakeholders
3. Begin work on the FoE Implement Phase I (This phase generally “completed” within twothree months following the FoE Implement orientation discussion, edit phase target dates to
match your timeline)



As part of FoE Implement Phase I process, create FoE Implementation Steering
Committee
Outline implementation timeline and responsibilities for the major action items that
comprise the overall action plan
Develop communication plans for the overall action plan and for ongoing
communications as implementation occurs
4. Notify your Gardner Institute Advisor that FoE Implement Phase I is ready for feedback
(Request Feedback button on the Phase I landing page)

Hold a conference call with your institute advisor to clarify feedback or discuss other
implement related issues.
5. Conduct a campus-/institution-wide FoE Implementation Launch Meeting with Your FoE
Implementation Committee (September/October)



Share (and celebrate) actions taken and project successes to date
Share key aspects of Phase I decisions
Field questions

6. Begin work on Phase II. This phase involves developing detailed plans related to the
implementation of each major action item.



Different groups may be involved in the development of the plans for individual
action items – add members to the implement team as needed
Liaisons and action item project leaders should participate in the Phase II webinar
Liaisons or action item project teams should contact the Gardner Institute Advisor,
when they have questions as they work on Phase II
7. Hold steering committee meeting to discuss progress on action plans and implementation.
Finalize Phase II report and notify your Gardner Institute Advisor that Phase II FoE
Implement is ready for feedback (Request Feedback button on the Phase II landing page;
suggested completion about December 1)
8. Conduct a campus-/institution-wide FoE Implementation mid-year meeting with your FoE
Implementation Committee (January)



Share key aspects of Phase II Plans and update on next steps
Share (and celebrate) project successes to date
Field questions
9. Hold a Steering Committee meeting to review progress and discuss Phase III report. Notify
your Gardner Institute Advisor that Phase III FoE Implement is ready for feedback (on or
about March 1)
10. Conduct a campus-/institution-wide FoE Implementation end-of-year meeting with your
FoE Implementation Team (Suggested timing is April or before final exams begin and faculty
leave)



Share (and celebrate) project progress and successes to date
Share plans for upcoming year(s)
Field questions
11. Consider having a retreat or series of meetings with the Implement Steering Committee and
other key players to reflect upon lessons learned from the Implement process and plan for
the coming year (Phase IV)
12. Notify your Gardner Institute Advisor that Phase IV FoE Implement is ready for feedback
