Introduction
WaterAid is at an exciting time. We have an ambitious strategy to bring clean water and
safe sanitation to 125m people by 2015 at a cost of £100million. To achieve this we
need something big to happen in our fundraising and supporter engagement work in the
UK. We are planning significant growth across our Community & Events team activity
to deepen the engagement of existing supporters and recruit new supporters.
The Community & Events fundraising team currently manages and develops
partnerships with community based audiences including Rotary Clubs, Faith groups,
Schools, WaterAid Local Groups and other community groups. We also have a network
of volunteer speakers, support individuals with their fundraising and develop fundraising
event products including Music events, WaterAid 200 Mountain Challenge, Running,
Overseas Challenges and Sing for Water to engage with supporters. The team also
manages our involvement with Glastonbury and Bestival Festivals.
Job purpose
Responsible for building and developing existing partnerships with community
organisations at a local and national level to deliver agreed objectives, retain our current
supporters, maximise their support and make the most of opportunities for integration
and added value across WaterAid. WaterAid currently has partnerships with Rotary,
Lions, Inner Wheel and Soroptimists which will be account managed by this role. This
role will focus on developing and growing these existing partnerships, building on the
enthusiasm and support of these committed audiences and building high value
relationships with influential individuals within these groups. There will also be scope to
proactively seek opportunities with new community audiences.

Key accountabilities
1. Build, manage and maintain excellent partnerships with Rotary, Lions, Inner Wheel
and Soroptimists groups, ensuring their support for WaterAid is maximised through
club/group engagement and mass marketing techniques.
2. To be the key point of contact for community organisations, providing direction to
and working with the Supporter Services team and Community & Events Fundraising
Assistant to deliver an exceptional supporter experience.
3. With support from the Community Fundraising Manager, contribute to development
of annual plans and budgets for community organisations and produce regular
reports back on progress against objectives and financial targets.
4. To lead on the relevant data capture and recording for these audiences, ensuring
consistent and effective use of Raisers Edge.
5. Responsible for managing links between country-projects and community
organisations where funding is restricted and producing associated reporting.
6. Volunteer recruitment and supervision to help support delivery of objectives.
7. Contribute to development of new fundraising opportunities and work across
WaterAid to ensure all audiences and products are integrated to achieve maximum
benefit to WaterAid.
8. Cross working within the Community & Events Fundraising team to seek
opportunities to deepen supporters’ engagement with WaterAid, working towards
shared goals and supporting colleagues with specific projects as appropriate.
9. Ensure fundraising activity is carried out in accordance with current good practice
and within charity law, managing contracts and agreements where appropriate and
providing advice to others.
10. Develop and maintain an excellent knowledge of WaterAid’s programmes, policies
and activities and be able to represent WaterAid effectively at all levels, including at
conferences and events to deepen supporter’s relationships with WaterAid.
11. Ensure reasonable care is taken of yourself, team members and colleagues
according to health and safety policy and principles.
12. To undertake any other reasonable tasks as requested by the Community
Fundraising Manager or Community & Events Team Leader as required.

Person Specification
Essential
 Proven fundraising experience.
 Experience building relationships and high value partnerships with individuals,
companies or groups.
 Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including copy-writing.
 Proactive approach to fundraising.
 Attention to detail and able to provide appropriate support at all levels.
 Good numeracy skills and ability to analyse and report on financial performance.
 Ability to work flexibly and under own initiative to manage varying competing priorities
and to meet strict deadlines.
 Experience of managing information on databases (e.g. Raisers Edge)
 Educated to degree level or significant equivalent work experience.
 Good working knowledge of MS Office.
 Commitment to WaterAid’s values and a working style that reflects these.
 Willingness to work some unsociable hours when required (evenings and weekends).
Desirable
 Experience of working with one or more of Rotary, Lions, Inner Wheel, Soroptimists
or similar.
 Experience of managing or contributing to direct marketing appeals.
 Experience of managing multiple projects simultaneously
 Knowledge of fundraising best practice, legal requirements and health & safety
relating to community and events fundraising.
 Experience of managing volunteers.
 Events fundraising experience.
 Understanding of and interest in international development.
 Willingness to travel overseas with supporters if required.

Working Hours
Full time - Standard working hours at WaterAid are 35 hours per
week, Monday to Friday. Core office hours are between
10.00am and 4.00pm. Start and finish times are to be agreed
with the line manager upon joining.
Annual Leave
25 days per year plus all UK public holidays (pro rata). The
number of annual leave days will increases to 27 days (pro rata)
after four years’ service
Contract Period
The post is offered on a permanent contract
Probation
The appointment is subject to the satisfactory completion of a
six month probationary period
