Hardwood Hustle Rules
Game rules will be as follows:
* NFHS rules: WIAA certified officials working each game and NFHS rules will be in effect,
unless noted below.
* Game time: Each half will consist of 18 minutes with a running clock until the last 2 minutes.
Clock will continue to run the final two minutes if a team is ahead by 20 or more points.
* Pre-game clock: There will be a minimum of a 4 minute warm-up period between games.
* Half time clock: There will be a 4 minute half time between halves.
* Time outs: 5 time-outs during the regulation game.
* Overtime: There will be a 1 minute break between overtime(s). The first overtime will be three
minutes in length with a running clock until the last 2 minutes. The second overtime will be
sudden death. Each team will be awarded one full time-out per overtime. Timeouts do not carry
over from the end of regulation to overtimes.
* Defensive restrictions:
o 4th & 5th Grade – Any defense is allowed. Man to man pressing ONLY is allowed,
unless a team is ahead by 15 or more points.
o 6th,7th, & 8th grade– Zone defenses are permitted at all times. Any type of pressing is
allowed the entire game, unless a team is ahead by 25 or more points.
* A team will forfeit a game if they are not on the floor and ready to play at the scheduled start
of the game.
* Free throw line:
o 4th Grade- 12’ free throw line will be marked and used.
o 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th will use NFHS rules for free throws
The tournament director at the site will settle any disputes. No protests are allowed.
