Mr Greg Barber MLC
Leader, Victorian Greens
Suite G-01, 60 Leicester Street
Carlton, 3053
Dear Mr Barber
Local Government Call to Parties
I am pleased to enclose a copy of the MAV Call To Parties outlining the key commitments sought by
local government prior to the upcoming state election.
This plan responds to a range of current challenges facing the state, including providing for a growing
and ageing population, preparing for and adapting to climate change, building resilience to overcome
natural disasters, and ensuring opportunities for continued economic development and social
connectedness.
State and local government have a long history of working cooperatively for the benefit of Victorian
communities and responses to these challenges require continued strong partnerships to ensure
Victoria’s status as one of the most liveable places is maintained.
The Call To Parties outlines 51 specific actions sought from the Victorian Greens during the next term
of government. It builds on the core priorities determined by Victorian councils, as endorsed by our
members in the MAV’s Strategic Work Plan 2014-15.
The MAV will be asking each political party to outline how it proposes to tackle each of the issues
outlined in the MAV Call To Parties if you are elected to govern in Victoria on 29 November.
Once the caretaker period commences, we will forward an electronic copy of the document to your
campaign headquarters to assist you in providing a response to the issues raised.
The MAV will be publicly releasing all political party responses received so that Victorian councils and
voters can make an informed choice in this election by better understanding how you will work with
local government to address these important community challenges.

I would also welcome the opportunity to meet with you to discuss the matters raised in our Call To
Parties. I can be contacted on [email protected] or 0437 984 793 to arrange a meeting time.
Please forward your party’s response by 10 November to the MAV at PO Box 4326, Melbourne 3001
or by email to [email protected].
Sincerely
CR BILL MCARTHUR
MAV President
