Please telephone in advance to book an appointment with the GP of your choice.
REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS
The practice now offers a 24 hour a day prescribing line for repeat prescriptions on Tel: (028) 38 350269.
This consists of an answering machine service which is checked several times a day. The service requires
that you leave your name, address and telephone number in addition to the items that you require. If
possible please phone 24 hours in advance.
ACUTE PRESCRIPTIONS
Requests for acute prescriptions for acute illness should be made by telephoning the main practice
number and speaking to a member of reception staff.
HOME VISITS
Home visits are reserved for those people who are elderly or frail, or who are so physically unwell that
they cannot travel to be seen at the Health Centre.
Please telephone as early as possible to request a home visit, preferably before 10.30am if at all possible.

The treatment room plays a key role in Portadown Health Centre. It is staffed by specialist treatment
room nurses with some additional input from district nursing. The treatment provides key clinical services
such as wound dressing, removal of sutures and treatment of minor injuries plus many other important
procedures. All treatment room procedures need to be booked in advance by telephoning the above
number.
The nurse in charge of the treatment room is Mrs. Amber Jones.

HEALTH VISITING
Health Visitors are highly trained specialist nurses who have extra qualifications in obstetrics & child
health. They are mostly involved in child & family work, especially in the fields of child development and
health promotion.

DISTRICT NURSING
District nurses are highly trained specialist nurses. They provide numerous specialist nursing services
primarily for those patients who are physically unable to attend the health centre for treatment. Our
district nurse is Mrs. Anne McEvoy.
SALT DAYS
Approximately once a month (on a Tuesday) the practice closes for the afternoon for essential staff
training organised by the southern health trust. The dates of the “SALT DAYS” are published in advanced
in the Health Centre, on the practice website and also on the SALT website www.salt.n-i.nhs.uk.
