You are needed - Kaitaia Abundant Life School

You are needed … in this place … at this time …
16 November 2016
It was encouraging to see the auditorium full of people for the Year 11-13 Prize-giving. Many
thanks and much appreciation to all who were there and all who gave their time, mahi and
aroha. You made it a special occasion celebrating the senior students’ successes from 2016.
You are needed…in this place…at this time…
It was overwhelming to see so many students at school early on Friday 4th November to celebrate
the unveiling of our school taonga. Thanks to all who were there and all who shared their time,
mahi and aroha. You made it a special occasion celebrating our expression of who we are and
what we do at Kaitaia Abundant Life School.
Faith. Excellence. Whakawhanaungatanga. You are needed…in this place…at this time…
It is exciting to look forward to the last few weeks of this school year, Upcoming events include
Year 7-9 Camp, Year 10 Activities, Year 1-6 Prize-giving, Year 7-10 Prize-giving and end of year
celebrations. Then there is Christmas and a new year beyond that. Most of our students and staff
will return in 2017, to move forward and grow in knowledge and in stature, with both God and
man.
You are needed…in this place…at this time…
I am reminded of a story where God told a man that he was needed, in certain place, at a
certain time. There is a large fish and a large plant in the story. There is a lot to learn about Jesus
and God in the story. Jonah learnt a lot from God, in that place, at that time.
“Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God’s love for them. But I, with shouts of grateful
praise, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. I will say, ‘Salvation comes from
the Lord.’” Jonah 2:8 & 9
We can learn a lot from God, in this place, at this time.
“You did not choose Me, but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit — fruit that will
remain — so that whatever you ask the Father in My name, He will give you. This is My command
to you: Love one another…” John 15:16 & 17

From the Orchestra ...
It was a real honour for our small school orchestra to be invited to perform at Senior Prizegiving this
year.
The girls (Julia Walker, Gabriel Marsh on Cello, Ashley Rice on Keys, Rhythm Tahitahi-Matiu on
violin, Jacqueline Holland on Flute and Katelyn Edgecombe on guitar) really enjoyed the
opportunity.
We thank God for our musical gifts, Jared and the school for their support and Sharyn van
Heerden and the Whakaaro Tahi Community Trust for their ongoing and generous financial
contribution to Music at Abundant Life School.
And sadly farewell Julia Walker as she leaves us to commence her university studies. She has
been an amazing role model in our group and such a fun person to be with on our Community
performances at Switzer Home, Te Ahu Centre and the Kaitaia Street Festival. Our prayers go with
you Julia.
PHOTOGRAPHY AT SCHOOL
From time to time we will be photographing and video recording
school events and publishing them in the school newsletter and
other media outlets. If you do not wish for your child’s image to
be published please contact the school office.
