WiP Cornwall Launch Event

Tuesday 10th February
Women in Property Cornwall Launch Event
The Association of Women in Property (WiP) will be hosting its Cornwall launch
event on Thursday 12th February at the Kazbah in Truro.
WiP was founded in 1987 as a networking platform for professional women in
the property and construction sector. Today the group offers membership to
women across the UK from a diverse range of property and construction
disciplines including architects, planners, engineers, surveyors and property
lawyers.
As one of the UK’s foremost professional women’s organisations WiP not only
hosts numerous networking events, seminars and conferences, but it also
implements initiatives to encourage more women into the industry and advise
them on career development, for example through its successful Mentoring
Programme.
The WiP Devon and Cornwall satellite branch has been operating across Exeter
and Plymouth for several years, however, it will now be hosting its first event in
Cornwall.
Sarah Greenslade, WiP Committee Member and Marketing Manager for Ward
Williams Associates and Holly King, Solicitor at Charles French & Co Solicitors
will be hosting the event, which is being sponsored by their respective firms.
Sarah commented: “I am thrilled that we are going to be bringing Women in
Property events to Cornwall. I hope this launch will encourage women across the
county
to
come
together
to
meet
new
people
and
develop
business
opportunities.
“I would encourage anyone who is interested in attending, has an idea for future
events or would like to discuss sponsorship, to get in touch. I also like to thank
our employers Ward Williams Associates and Charles French & Co for getting
behind us to make this event happen.”

About Women in Property:
It was a chance meeting between architect, Elspeth Clements and surveyor,
Michelle Foster in 1987 that led to the founding of The Association of Women in
Property, initially as a networking platform for professional women in the
property sector. The role of the Association is as relevant today as it was in
1987. Our approach is always to offer friendly support and a nurturing backdrop
to the professional lives of our diverse membership. We represent all disciplines
within the property and construction industry, providing a forum for business
opportunities, the exchanging of views, networking and personal development.
As one of the UK's foremost professional women's organisations, we are often
asked for input on national initiatives, in addition to spearheading some of our
own:
 Submission to the Lord Davies Report seeking to grow the number of
women in UK boardrooms, 2011/2012
 Developing WiP's 'Mid Career Taskforce', exploring diversity in the
property and wider industry 2013/2014




Through the Mid-Career Task Force, the national roll out that started in
November 2014 of our Unconscious Bias seminar which looks at how
different personalities, skills, thinking styles and ways of working are
recognised and celebrated, so that they may be used to maximise success
and forward-thinking.

About Charles French & Co:
Charles French set up the firm in 2007 with an office in Truro. Previous to this
Charles had been practising law in Cornwall for over 10 years. He comes from a
family of lawyers who have practised law in Cornwall since the mid 1950’s.
Initially the firm provided advice on commercial property, residential
conveyancing and civil litigation but added their wills, probate and trusts
department when, in January 2009 the firm expanded with the merger of
Melville, Mitchell & Bailey Solicitors. This well established firm had been
providing legal services in Mevagissey for over 30 years. Today the firm
continues to grow and now has five Directors based in our three offices in Truro,
St. Austell and Mevagissey. However, throughout the expansion of the firm our
objective has remained the same; we aim to be a commercially minded firm who
provide our clients with an efficient and cost effective service.
