Newsletter for Friday, November 11, 2016 Parshas Lech Lecha 10th of Cheshvan, 5777 Dear Parents, This week we started our more extensive learning of the days of creation. We are focusing on the first day. We have done a number of science experiments to learn more about light and dark. As the year progresses we will be going through all the days of creation. Since it is fall, our Science shelf is filled with leaf related works such as learning the parts of a leaf, leaf matching, and learning about the different shapes and names of various leaves. This theme has also carried over to our art area, where children are enjoying using special punchers to punch out colorful leaves, and then glue them on a picture of a tree to create a beautiful fall picture. In Hebrew language many of the children are propelling forward at amazing rates. Children who did not show much interest in Alef Beis last year, or even at the beginning of this year are settling in and learning their sounds. In English language children are also progressing at a fast pace now. There seems to have been a collective language “boom” in the classroom. In math our friends are moving forward nicely. More and more children are taking out math works independently as well as asking for new lessons. Many of our four year olds have asked for, and received, work plans. This will make their transition to kindergarten that much easier next year. The work plan helps them to plan and use their time wisely. We continue to exercise in our first line of the day and are now doing two sets of plank and 5 sit ups. The children really enjoy this activity and ask for it with excitement. Strengthening their core muscles will have great benefits both in the present and future. In Parsha the children are ROCKING!!! We are so pleased to see the enthusiasm the children are showing for learning and understanding the parsha. The children relish the stories and seem to enjoy participating and answering questions. We hope you are seeing the same type of enthusiasm at your Shabbos tables. We wish everyone a wonderful weekend and a peaceful and restful Shabbos!
