• Primary project GCSC for 2013-2015
• Focus: To save historic properties, trees, and
heritage planting across the entire state
• Official state date – April 27, 2013

HTHP Goals
• To identify historic trees located across SC and
celebrate their existence
o Located on historic site
o Located on public site
• To plant historic trees in historic places and
celebrate their existence
o Historic place may be public or private
HTHP Objectives
• Working with all GCSC Committees and
District contacts – ensure publicity
• Working with all non-GCSC Committees and
District contacts – ensure publicity
• Non-GCSC Committees and contacts
o Civic organizations, churches, community members
o Historic preservationists, landscape architects,
archivists, native plant societies, politicians

Local garden clubs will each have a coordinator
who will:
o Disseminate info to all club members, community
organizations, and other designated individuals
o Work with club members and community to
identify/plant trees

o Plan celebrations for all activities
o Submit all activities to the District Director (form
will be online at GCSC web site)
• District Director will:
o Submit all activities for all District clubs to
assigned GCSC Steering Committee District Liaison

• District Liaison will submit all activities to the
HTHP Project Coordinator who will assist with
the annual book publication
• State Award – given to the club and/or District
with the most exemplary accomplishments

HTHP GCC Project Example

o Identify historic trees in Charleston County
(submitted by club members)
o Identify historic trees through partnership with
Charles Towne Landing
o Celebrate these trees and plant a tree with Arbor
Day Celebration at CTL – multiple organizations

• Identify trees/plant trees/celebrate trees
o 10,000 Trees for Charleston – planting - adoption
of part of one corridor – participate in group
celebrations
o Planting of trees by GCC Committees, e.g. Jr.
Garden Club and Girl Scouts
o All activities submitted to District Director to
submit to the State for inclusion in annual
publication
