LIGHT REGIONAL COUNCIL MEDIA RELEASE DAVIDSON RESERVE WEIR Works on the Davidson Reserve weir wall began this week with contractors on site to begin the repair process. Stage one in the repair works was to drill into the embankment at selected locations at 500mm spacing’s on both sides of the weir wing walls and inject a liquid solution containing micro fines to fill the voids within the structure. The contactors have reported that the process looked promising with the eastern side of the wall taking a larger amount of product to fill than the western side locations, but all injection points had been filled as per their process. The next step in stage one works was to inject resin from the inside of the tunnel to seal the structures stone wall. This process fills the exposed gaps in and around the stone wall filling up any potential voids located along the tunnel. The contractors informed council of a large void underneath the tunnel structure when preparing the area for the injection of the resins and that the continuation of the injection process was to become costly and potentially not be successful. Council staff met with the contractors on site to assess the situation, with the decision made to halt the injection process, taking into consideration the advice given. Stage two of the works is to now clay line the area immediately in front of and underneath the tunnel structure to seal the front of the wing wall, including filling the void and brining the clay lining up onto the face of the stone structure. Council staff are meeting with a contractor early next week in preparation to commence rehabilitation works within the next week.
