Breaking Down Your Gas Bill
The bottom line. It’s where most eyes go when
opening a gas bill. We want you to understand
the different components of your natural gas bill.
AGL (ATLANTA GAS LIGHT)
BASE CHARGE represents
as variable, 6 bills
fixed, 12 bills fixed
or 24 bills fixed.
Since the total amount due includes more than
just your gas consumption, it makes sense to
break down the bill into the different charges.

USAGE HISTORY is a
12-month consumption
chart included to help
track your usage patterns.
GAS CONSUMPTION is equal to the
price per therm multiplied by the
number of therms used. From the
sample bill, the customer used
43 therms at a rate of $0.529
per therm, which equals a current
gas charge of $22.75.
*Specific charges make up the AGL base charge – for details, visit atlantagaslight.com.
TAXES are
mandatory and
an identical
rate among
Georgia natural
gas providers.
WALTON’S CUSTOMER
SERVICE CHARGE is
$5.75. Other Georgia
natural gas providers
charge nearly twice
that amount, which
is significant over 12
months.
THINGS TO CONSIDER:
•
During colder months,
the majority of your bill
is gas consumption.
• Remember,
when you
receive a bill, you’re
actually paying for gas
consumption one to three
weeks prior to the billing
date. Therefore, your bill
may reflect different
usage from your current
usage, especially during
billing periods with
dramatically changing
temperatures.
• Gas
consumption is listed
in CCFs, which equals
the volume of 100 cubic
feet of natural gas.

COOKING A natural gas
stove or grill with a pilot
light lets you enjoy a hot
meal without electricity.
Some oven models that
are activated by a spark
ignition require electricity.
HEAT Stay warm during
an outage with natural gas
logs. A natural gas
furnace, however, will not
run during an outage.
Furnace fans require
electricity to distribute
the heated air.

•
HOT WATER Avoid cold
showers with a natural
gas water heater – you’ll
have continuous hot water
no matter how long the
lights are out.
BACKUP GENERATOR
A natural gas generator can
run electric appliances like
refrigerators and furnaces.
The best part is that the
generator automatically
switches on when the
power goes out.
