Job Description
Job Purpose
To support the Neighbourhood play leader and other play staff to
provide year round play opportunities for children aged 5-13 in the
Bulwell area. This role includes indoor as well as outdoor playwork
on parks and open spaces.
Principle duties and responsibility
1. To work with the Neighbourhood Play Leader and the
BCTL play team to organise and run regular play
sessions as required.
a. Ensure a safe, friendly and stimulating play environment for
all children.
b. To provide a variety of play activities including natural and
adventure based play opportunities and activities within a
community and environmentally friendly approach.
c. Assist the Neighbourhood Play Leader to ensure an
adequate supply of appropriate materials and resources. To
ensure that tools and equipment are in good and safe
working order.
d. To ensure that risk assessments have been carried out for
activities as appropriate.
e. Inspect the playspace on a daily basis ensuring the removal
of any hazards and the reporting damage to the appropriate
authorities.
f. To help with the monitoring and evaluating of the project.
2. To ensure that the project and its activities are child
centred and child led. To empower children, young
people and the local community to have an impact on
the use of local play space.
a. Work with: local parents, volunteers, children, residents,
schools and other agencies to establish strong relationships
to strengthen sustainability of the project.
b. Foster diversity, equality and inclusion in all aspects of
children’s play and the support offered to staff, volunteers
and trainees.
c. Create opportunities for children to develop new interests
and explore their creativity and physical abilities through play
and access to the natural environment.
d. Help provide opportunities for children and young people to
influence the design and planning of their play provision.
e. To identify children and young people who may need extra
support to assess our play provisions with the team and the
Inclusion Support Playworker.
3. Additional responsibilities
The post holder may be required to carry out additional
duties not exceeding the level of responsibility indicated
above. To include supporting BCTL in the delivering their
other open access play sessions within the Bulwell area as
and when necessary.
