5.1 Decision making introduction

Many people today (young and old) have no concept of what a responsible decision
really is. Most of us just make really quick decisions, or we make no choice at all – or
even have others make decisions for us – leaving future consequences to fate and
wishful thinking. You don’t have to do what others want or what the future will require,
you just have to consider the implications of possible actions. By thinking beyond
yourself, others and the moment, you are more likely to select choices that have
positive social/recreational and educational benefits in the future.
Making effective decisions typically
involves a five step process:
C
1. Identify your options and choices that you can make
2. What’s the best decision for you now?
3. Consider others when coming to a decision– Not only me
4. Consider your future – Not only now
5. Make a decision and go for it
