Online Mentor Training
Events coming up:
Hope the year has started well for you, trainees from the PGCE
cohorts have already begun their first Professional Practice and
the feedback has already been very positive from trainees and
mentors in settings.
Please take the opportunity to complete the Online Mentor
Training if you are new to this essential training role. It may also
be a useful refresher for those of you who already have a wealth
of experience training Edge Hill University trainees.

A key focus for the Secondary Area this year is the accuracy of
assessment of trainee progress across the Edge Hill University
Partnership and particularly the assessment of trainees on
Professional Practice against the Teachers’ Standards (2013).
Remember that trainees are assessed according to “what may
reasonably be expected of a trainee at that point in their
training” and a Grade 1 trainee at the end of their programme is
a trainee who demonstrates the potential to become an
outstanding teacher by the end of their NQT Year.
NQT Twilight Training Event 12th October 2016

Hill University trained NQTs and all NQTs from across the Edge
Hill University Partnership are invited to attend. The focus of the

Partnership Quality Officers
Partnership Quality Officers (PQOs) are attached to every school / college in the Secondary
Partnership. They are your first port of call should you have a query or question about the training you
are providing for Edge Hill University trainees. PQOs meet termly with the Professional Mentor in
Secondary Partnership schools / colleges and the feedback we receive indicates that overall schools
and colleges are exceptionally happy with the way the partnership is operating and the value it brings
to their setting.
“The collaboration and partnership has been excellent and associate teachers this year have been, for the
most part, exceptional.”
“I find it very useful that Leon Fraser (PQO) comes in and liaises with me re placements and students.”
“Excellent PE trainee. A pleasure to have had in School.”
“As this was the first time we have worked in partnership with you, I have to take a moment to say I have been
impressed with the set up of the course, the support we have received and the usefulness of the online and
paper documents/support materials. Emma Snowden, the trainee, has been outstanding; professionally, in the
classroom and as an ambassador for your course. The support and guidance we received from Dr Gordon
Laing in particular has proven to be invaluable.”
“Megan was well prepared for her placement and has fully integrated into the department. She has been
heavily involved with the KS4 revision process including participating in the after school enrichment and has
been a pleasure to have around the place.”
One suggested area for improvement has already been shared with our Programme Leaders:
“Trainees could do with prior training of how to make phone calls to parents etc.”
Thank you to all our partners and we look forward to working with you during 2016-17!
SUBJECT NETWORKS 2016-17
Each subject area at the University hosts a
Subject Network Meeting during the three
school terms, at Edge Hill University.
The aim of the meetings is to review
developments in the subject area and provide
“free” CPD for all our Partners and Tutors.
Speakers in the past have included a NATRE
up-date, teaching and learning in RE and key
priorities in RE delivered by Lat Blaylock of
“RE Today”, and all day Computing Training
delivered by CAS Champions. See the
external website for more details on events for
2016-17.
