Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances (EPCS)

Please copy the below text to email the External Provider who will verify you for EPCS. If
there is another provider in your practice with a Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) number who
has already been verified, you can confirm each other rather than go through this process.
Please note that this External Provider should have already been entered on the McKesson
Practice Choice External Providers screen in Administration.
***Before sending, please highlight and replace the bold fields with the appropriate
information***
Dear <Insert Provider Name>,
Thank you for your efforts to verify me for EPCS. The steps are fairly easy and will take about
five minutes.
1. Please click on this link: https://www.mckerx.com
2. For Username, enter <copy in the read-only name that appears in “EPCS Verifier”
field on the External Provider screen in McKesson Practice Choice>
3. For Password, enter Password1.
4. Click Administration on the left menu.
5. Click Physician Setup.
6. Click Physician Demographics.
7. Select the provider you are verifying. If my name is not visible, perform a search using
the dialog boxes.
8. Check the EPCS Verified box (shown below in green).
9. Click Verify.

10. Provide your Norton/Symantec credentials when prompted. This is the Norton
username and password assigned to you during your own Identity Proofing and EPCS
authentication process.
11. Enter the security code generated by your hardware or software token and click Verify.
12. Upon clicking Verify, both of the check boxes (shown below in green) should be
selected in the Physician Demographics screen.

13. Click Save to complete this process. I will now be able to e-prescribe controlled
substances!
14. Please respond to this email letting me know you have completed the steps. If
