CSS has various levels and profiles. Each
level of CSS builds upon the last, typically
adding new features and typically denoted as
CSS1, CSS2, CSS3, and CSS4. Profiles are
typically a subset of one or more levels of
CSS built for a particular device or user
interface. Currently there are profiles for
mobile devices, printers, and television sets.
Profiles should not be confused with media
types, which were added in CSS2.

The Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
specification describes how elements of web
pages are displayed by graphical browsers.
Section 4 of the CSS1 specification defines a
formatting model that gives block-level
elements—such as p and blockquote—a
width and height, and three levels of boxes
surrounding it: padding, borders, and
margins. While the specification never uses
the term box model explicitly, the term has
become widely used by web developers and
web browser vendors.
