Dear Parents and Carers
Keeping safe in the sun
A team from the charity FACT (Facing All Cancers Together) came into school on Monday to deliver
sun safety assemblies for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. They reminded the children of the need to
use a high factor sun cream, drink plenty of water and wear a hat to cover their ears and neck – all
important messages for what we hope will be a long, hot summer!
Residential updates
Year 6 enjoyed the most amazing, action packed 3 days away at Dukes House Wood in Hexham this
week. Many thanks to Mrs Holden, Mrs Potts and Mrs Earl for giving the children such a fun and
memorable experience. I know the whole Year 6 class worked as an outstanding team to support and
encourage each other. They should be very proud of the way they pushed themselves and how they
cared for their friends. Please check the website for some sample photos of what they got up to!
Year 5 will need to start packing this weekend for their residential to Gibside National Trust next
week. I know Miss Robson has a whole host of exciting activities planned. So many of our Year 5
children are interested in nature , so I know they are going to have the most amazing time exploring
and discovering. I am sure the night walk will be one particular favourite.
P.S Don’t forget to pack the midnight snacks Year 5!
Show Racism the Red Card
Show Racism the Red Card is the UK's leading anti-racism educational charity. They provide
educational workshops, training sessions and a whole host of other resources, all with the purpose of
tackling racism in society. Established in 1996, the organisation utilises the high-profile status of
football and football players to publicise its message. Across Britain, Show Racism the Red Card
delivers training to more than 50,000 individuals per year.
Next week a variety of thought provoking workshops led by the Show Racism the Red Card team will
take place for Year 5 and Year 6. The aim is to familiarise young people with some of the causes and
consequences of racism, to enable the children to respect the differences between people and
encourage them to play an active role in a growing multi-racial and multi-cultural society.
Book Fair
We are holding a book fair in school across w/c 26th June. We have chosen to use the Book People
who are going to give us a wide range of heavily discounted books to sell. Please come along, every
book sold gives us commission to buy new books for our school library. More information, including
selling times will be sent out by Mrs Gibson and Mrs Holden next week.

Plastic chairs for sale: £1 donation
Y1 are now the proud owners of lovely new chairs. We are therefore selling the old ones in the school
playground every morning next week for a £1 donation to school fund. They would make ideal little
chairs for a playroom, art and craft activities or even as a garden chair.
Uniform order
To guarantee delivery of school uniform ready for September the deadline for orders will be
Thursday 22nd June 2017.
Please remember school is CLOSED next Friday 23/6/17 as it is our occasional day
I hope you all enjoy a lovely sunny weekend. We know Mr Joab certainly will, as he is getting married
tomorrow! We are so excited for him and wish the soon to be Mr and Mrs Joab lots of love and
happiness. I hope they enjoy their very special day!!!
Kind Regards
