Position Announcement for Ph.D. and Postdoctoral Research Scientist Candidates
The Next Generation Networking Systems Laboratory at UC Davis invites applications for
Ph.D. students and postdoctoral research scientists specializing in the following areas.
1. Scalable computing systems: this position seeks key innovations in scalable high
performance computing and data center system architectures through a new generation of
optical interconnects. The current project team is investigating new multi-core processor
architectures, network-on-chip, nano-photonic/nano-electronic interconnect technologies,
prototype system experiments, and hierarchical system architectures with opticalinterconnects scaling to exascale.
System throughput, workload analysis, and
benchmarking studies are emphasized in the team project. The candidate are expected to
conduct architecture simulations, experimental emulations, FPGA programming,
benchmarking studies, and other relevant tasks for the team project.
2. Software-Defined Optical Networking: this position seeks key innovations in network
control and management, network architectures design, and multi-domain software
defined networking for highly dynamic and adaptive cyberinfrastructures. We are
interested in elastic optical networks and wireless-optical networks in support of (1)
adaptive and elastic end-to-end service provision to allow low-latency collaborative
applications across heterogeneous network environments, and (2) data packet/burst/flow
agile applications. The candidate will conduct extensive simulation and emulation studies
in addition to software-defined heterogeneous network testbed studies.
3. Silicon Photonic and Hybrid integration: this position specializes in integrated
photonic systems and hybrid photonic-electronic integrated systems. The emphasis will be
on integration of a large number of photonic and electronic components including lasers,
modulators, detectors, multiplexers, demultiplexers, optical amplifiers, logic gates,
transimpedance amplifiers, and electronic drivers. In particular, this position specializes in
planar lightwave circuits such as arrayed waveguide gratings, crossbar switches,
modulators, and gain elements integrated on silicon or indium phosphide substrate
platforms.
Summaries of team projects are available on the web: http://sierra.ece.ucdavis.edu.
Interested candidates should send their resumes to [email protected]. Interview in China
is available during November 5-November 12 in Beijing and Shanghai areas.
