Curriculum Day, no
students at school
On Friday last week we held our first Mothers and
Special Others Picnic. The students and staff
were pleased to welcome many mothers,
grandmothers and aunts as well as other family
members who brought picnic lunches to share
with their children.
It was a lovely, sunny day, allowing us to sit
outside and enjoy this special time together.
This event was one of our major KidsMatter
events for the year and was originally proposed
to ensure that regardless of who is part of your
family, there is always time to get together and
celebrate in each others’ company.
I know it isn’t always possible for members of our
school community to attend every event at the
school, but it was wonderful to see so many
happy and cheerful faces. Children who didn’t
have any family attend on the day were
welcomed into other family groups, making sure
they weren’t left out.
Thank you to all those who were able to come
along and for the wonderful food that you
shared, not only with your families but with other
children and adults.

ASSEMBLY:
Monday 16th May
9.00am
This week our Grade 3 and 5 students
participated in the national literacy and
numeracy testing program called NAPLAN. I am
proud of the mature and conscientious way the
students approached the tests—trying their very
best to answer every question. The teachers
supervising the tests were impressed with the
students and their efforts.
The results of these tests will be published later
in the year and parents will receive individual
results for their children.
The school uses the results to assist us to plan for
future learning opportunities and enable us to
further develop learning programs for individual
students. Thank you to all the teachers involved
in making sure the testing ran smoothly.
The 2016 theme is technology, so I
encourage parents to bring their children
and have some fun with our QR scavenger
hunt as well as try out some activities in
each classroom.

Open Night.

SCHOOL and COMMUNITY NEWS
Working with Parents and Carers
As our Kids Matter journey continues and we embark upon Component 3 – Working with Parents
and Carers, we would like to create an opportunity for parents and carers within our school community to connect with
each other on a regular basis. Beginning in Term 3, on a monthly basis (following our Monday whole school assemblies)
we would like to invite parents and carers into the staffroom for a cuppa and a chat. We know how busy life can be so
we are trying to create an opportunity for you to take some time to enjoy a cuppa and meet new people from within
our school community.
Sharon O’Brien (Chaplain) and I will be part of the parent group each month. As a school we recognize that from time
to time parents need support too. Meeting new people and developing a support network within the school
community is an excellent way to build relationships.
The dates for our Parent Group Meetings to be held in the staffroom are scheduled as follows;
Term 3
Monday 18th July
Monday 15th August
Monday 12th September
Term 4
Monday 10th October
Monday 7th November
Monday 5th December
We look forward to seeing you there!

LOST PROPERTY
We have so many items of lost property, ranging from lunch boxes and
drink bottles through to hats, jumpers and jackets. If you are missing any
of your child’s items, please come to the school office and we will help you
search.
PREPS 2017
If you, or you know of anyone who has a child turning 5, enrolment
packs are available at the school, please remember your child must
turn 5 before April 30th 2017 to start school.
SECOND HAND ITEMS
If your child has grown out of their school uniform, the school would
appreciate any donations of second hand clothing. You can bring them to
the office. You can also purchase second hand uniform for a gold coin
donation
CHANGE OF PHONE NUMBERS / ADDRESSES
If you have changed your phone number or address,
please don’t forget to let the school know. It is much
easier if we have the right phone number to call if we have
an unwell child who needs to go home.
