Career Center Auto Tech team finishes
first at International Car Show in Detroit
JACKSON, Mich. – Jackson Area Career Center automotive technology instructors and
students won a Snap-On diagnostic tool valued at $2,500 during Industry Day at the
North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit.
Instructors Ron Richards and Ryan Brelinski and a team of 18 students took part in the
Tech Trek scavenger hunt on Jan. 12, scouring the massive show from 9 a.m. to 12 noon
to find answers to 50 questions about this year’s vehicle specifications.
After the teams had turned in their answers, the Career Center team learned they had the
highest team score. Then, their prize was announced.
“We were asked to search for gross vehicle weights, motor wattage, and build dates,”
said Brelinski. “The contest insured that the students got to see as much of the car show
as possible.”
Richards took first place and Brelinski took third in the instructors challenge. Two of the
attending Career Center automotive technology students contributed to the team score by
taking second and fifth place in the students challenge.
