JOB TITLE:
Internal Auditor

JOB SUMMARY
Our internal auditor is responsible for conducting onsite audits of escrow accounts (i.e., reviews title and
escrow files and files reports accordingly) for all agents by following state and federal laws, as well as
our own standard audit procedures and forms. This position is responsible for identifying existing or
potential control weaknesses and reporting constructive recommendations. Our internal auditor
composes an audit report for each agent addressing problems, issues, and recommendations. S/He is
required to develop and maintain effective communication and rapport with agents to ensure
cooperation and receptiveness in implementing audit recommendations. This position performs pre-sign
audits prior to agent approval, as well as attends auditing and educational seminars.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
 Performs in-person audit examinations with approved audit program
 Executes detailed audit procedures
 Reviews bank statements, cancelled checks, and reconciliation reports for accuracy and
effectiveness
 Reviews outstanding checks and deposits to investigate for any irregularities
 Evaluates effectiveness of internal controls of attorney agents
 Reviews real estate files for compliant underwriting procedures and documents any deficiencies
 Reviews general office procedures for segregation of duties, security controls, attorney
oversight and timely reporting
 Presents findings and recommendations to management during and at the conclusion of each
audit
 Prepares exit reports for attorney agents, state manager, and chief internal auditor
 Conducts follow-up audits on any deficiencies found on initial audits
 Delivers cancellation letters to deficient agents as required by the state manager
 Performs required agency termination procedures and retrieves policy inventory
 Prepares annual audit schedule to maximize effectiveness of agency audits
 Participates in a variety of audit procedures, including tests of internal controls, walkthroughs,
and agent office observations
 Contacts agents to schedule, conduct, and document audits of attorney agents
 Develops knowledge in information technology, auditing, accounting, and business
 Stays informed of changes in auditing techniques and related areas
 Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
 Adheres to company policies and guidelines

QUALIFICATIONS
EXPERIENCE
No prior experience required.
EDUCATION
o A high school diploma is required.
o Local seminars, workshops, home study courses, and courses offered through local
colleges and universities are recommended prior to and during employment.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, INSURANCE
A valid state driver’s license and a clean driving record are required.
KNOWLEDGE
Understanding of audit procedures and how to prepare audit work papers in accordance
with U.S. GAAP, U.S. GAAS, and PCAOB documentation requirements.
