Registration of food premises
‘Food Business’ means any undertaking, whether for profit or not and whether public or private,
carrying out any of the activities related to any stage of production, processing and distribution of
food.
‘Food business operator’ means the natural or legal persons responsible for ensuring that the
requirements of food law are met within the food business under their control.
Food business operators must provide to their Local Council certain details about the nature of
their operations. Gravesham Borough Council keeps a public register of all food businesses in the
district. Registration allows us to monitor all our food businesses and help ensure they operate
safely within the food laws.
Are you a food business?
Food businesses can include home caterers, clubs, market stalls, vehicles and some domestic
premises if they are used to store, handle or prepare food. ‘Food’ includes drinks, confectionary
and wrapped food.
