Visual Arts R-2 Throughout the year Visual Arts will be experienced through Inquiry based learning, teaching artistic behaviours and exploration through creative play in structured activities. This will foster a strong sense of wellbeing and developing their connection with and contribution to the world. This term we will focus on collaborative art projects that build a sense of belonging and community. In Visual Arts, students: become aware of visual conventions and learn to notice visual detail explore how and why artworks are created and ways to use and apply visual conventions, such as line, shape, colour and texture make artworks in different forms to express their ideas, observations and imagination, using different techniques and processes. Visual Arts Yr 3 and 4 Throughout the year Visual Arts will be experienced through Inquiry based learning, teaching artistic behaviours and collaborative school projects. It involves students making and responding to artworks independently and collaboratively with their classmates and teachers. This term we will focus on building artworks in our school community to build a sense of belonging and connection. In Visual Arts, students: • will learn about the inquiry process by developing skills to think like an artist (Artist Habits of Mind) develop craft, engage and persist, envision, express, observe, reflect, stretch and explore, and understand art world •extend their awareness of visual conventions, and observe closely visual detail as they use materials, techniques and technologies and processes in visual arts forms •explore and experiment with visual conventions such as line, shape, colour and texture to develop an individual approach to a theme or subject matter •develop art-making skills and techniques needed to create artworks • consider how and why artists and craftspeople realise their ideas through different visual representations, practices, processes and viewpoints. Visual Arts Years 5 - 7 Throughout the year Visual Arts will be experienced through Inquiry based learning, teaching artistic behaviours and collaborative school projects. It involves students making and responding to artworks independently and collaboratively with their classmates and teachers. This term we will focus on building artworks in our school community to build a sense of belonging and connection. In Visual Arts, students: • will learn about the inquiry process by developing skills to think like an artist (Artist Habits of Mind) develop craft, engage and persist, envision, express, observe, reflect, stretch and explore, and understand art world • develop understanding of use and application of visual conventions •test and innovate with properties and qualities of available materials, techniques, technologies and processes •develop art-making skills and techniques needed to create artworks •collaborate and work through problems as they arise during their inquiry • draw ideas from other artists, artworks, symbol systems, and visual arts practices in other cultures, societies and times • extend their understanding of how and why artists, craftspeople and designers realise their ideas through different visual representations, practices, processes and viewpoints. • collaborate and work through problems as they arise during their inquiry process Lisa Hanson Visual Arts teacher
