In the future
Next week you should be receiving the year book for
2017. In it you will find the calendar for the year. This
way we can eliminate printing the calendar each
month and will just give updates and news. On the
back of your bulletin you will find new or additional
information to add to the calendar. So please make
sure you pick up the year book and keep it handy.
What is being done now
We have already started working on the church this year
and have plans for much more. The choir room has had a
new floor put down with baseboards, walls have been
painter, and we are working on finishing up the face lift.
The fellowship hall is being painted on the outside after it
was pressured washed. The old sanctuary has updated
electricity and work is being done to make it a great place
to have future programs. Some of these ideas are listed
below.
Ideas for the future
The truth is we need to come up with ideas that will
bring new people into the church. Facts are facts and
if we fail to grow we will eventually have to close the
doors.
The first idea is to open the old Sanctuary up and have
something going on in it during the week. The first
thing we have to do to get this started is to make
repairs to the building. Michael Bozeman is already
started on this. Most of these repairs can be done at
minimal cost, along with a lot of elbow grease.
The next step would be to decide what kind of program
we would have. The old sanctuary is a great area to do
many things and at this point it is being wasted and
unused.
We have received several ideas from members of the
church as to what kind of program we could have and
how it would reach out to people as well as help the
church.
One is to have a music program where people could
come and enjoy both playing and listening to uplifting
music. When one of PSM groups were here and had a
program in the old sanctuary people were being drawn
by the music.
Another idea would be to have stage presentations
and sell tickets. There are many ideas that could work
well for the space.
Another idea is to have an after school program for
youth to come and have a safe space to stay until their
parents are home. There are things such as pool
tables, ping pong tables, and etc. already in the space.
The next idea would most likely be in the fellowship
hall. We could form a support group that would meet
once a month for an hour for conversation and
refreshments. They would all be connected by the loss
of someone or something. Words of encouragement
would be offered and any discussion generated by
participants regarding their loss will be supported by
all. The goal of each gathering will be that participants
experience a resource for understanding and a
discovery of new interest and strength of purpose.
Stress and grief are things that we all deal with at
times and there are many areas in life that could
benefit from just this kind of group. Care givers, people
dealing with the loss of a child or a close friend.
The main point is that there is much potential here for
us to do some good in the community and at the same
time have the potential to grow.
We have PSM and WSCO working from our buildings
as well as two AA groups. This gives them a place to
work out of and us some income
