Well, it’s finally spring in New England! Flowers are blooming, birds
are singing, and people are walking around with smiles on their faces!
I’m thinking it may be time to take my snow tires off …
A few weeks ago I went to Cranston, RI, for a networking breakfast. I
really love doing these meet and greets! I will try to get some more in
before our fall conference again. One of my goals over these 3 years
has been to encourage each state to meet together regularly, get to
know one another, learn from each other, and refer to one another.
Each state becoming more strong and cohesive strengthens NEAPT
as a whole. Let’s continue to work together!
Again, I will remind you that NEAPT is co-sponsoring the Cape Cod
Seminars this summer. Scott Riviere will be our speaker each
morning. I am looking forward to not only learning more from him in
the mornings, but actually spending a whole summer week on the
Cape! There is more information at the end of this newsletter, and
registration is now open on our web-site.
Also coming up is our fall conference. The speaker this fall will be
Clair Mellenthin. It will still be held at the Verve in Natick, but please
note that the weekend is the end of October this year … not in
November! Mark your calendars!
Enjoy this weather, and I hope to see some of you on the Cape!

Member Spotlight: Bea Gove, SB-RPT
New Hampshire by Teneil Rineer
Beatrice Gove worked for several years as a school counsel at the Union-Sanborn School inn
Northfield, NH. Beatrice also completed the Play Therapy Certificate program at Plymouth
State University. She then went on to become a Registered Play Therapist. Upon renewing her
RPT credential this past February, she became the first person to receive the new SB-RPT
(School Based Registered Play Therapist) credentialed from the Association for Play Therapy.
This credential is for school counselors or school psychologists who hold a license from their
state’s department of education. Though recently retired, Beatrice found a new group to work
with. It begin in 2014, when she started volunteering at the NH Veterans Home in Tilton, NH.
There Beatrice volunteered in the dementia unit, using several play therapy techniques while
doing one-to-one work with patients with Alzheimer’s. She reports using everything from
music to sandtray work, and even has a registered therapy dog who visited the home with her.
Beatrice now works part-tine for the veteran’s home in the recreation department. She does
both individual and group work now, incorporating a variety of play therapy techniques.
Beatrice reports that many of the vets enjoy rhythm and music, as well as nature sounds and
birds songs. She highlights that her therapy dog continues to be a favorite as well. When asked
about the most rewarding part of her job, Beatrice explained the power of truly being present
with people, feeling the connection, and watching someone’s face light up.
It seems that play therapy has the power to tap into our core emotions, regardless of disease
and deterioration. What a powerful concept to consider for those of us just beginning to enter
the field.
