Shining light on memory: The effects of bright light exposure on working memory performance L. M. Huiberts , K. C. H. J. Smolders & Y. A. W. de Kort We investigated whether task difficulty moderates the acute effects of bright light on cognitive task performance. Using a balanced cross-over design, 64 participants were exposed to illuminance levels of 200 and 1000 lux. Digit-span task difficulty was manipulated by using the forward and backward digit-span task. N-back task difficulty was manipulated by using the 1-, 2-, and 3-back task. ---------- Results ---------2-back performance 3-back hit-rate percentage 2-back hit-rate percentage 3-back performance Morning Morning Afternoon Afternoon Backward digit-span performance FDST average number of correct trials BDST average number of correct trials Forward digit-span performance Morning Morning Afternoon ---------- ---------- Afternoon
