A letter from the founder The vision for Somadome was born in 1996, and came in a dream. I saw a simple space in my mind’s eye that jolted me awake. Since that moment, the vision has crystalized: create a space where we can access our inner voice, quiet our mental chatter and connect to ourselves, so that we may emerge - better able to connect to each other. Its manifestation came after almost two decades of outbound and inward travel until finally the company was born in 2012. The first prototype of the Somadome was piloted in over a dozen environments from wellness to corporate, schools to research, and among several thousand users over the course of three years. During that time, five iterations were developed, and the user experience was refined. In May 2015, the company launched its first commercial Somadome at 5Diamond Ojai Resort & Spa. Since then, it has launched four more domes into the luxury resort market - Carmel Valley Ranch, Cavallo Point, Four Seasons Westlake, and the Surrey Hotel in NYC. We were recognized and showcased by Richard Branson at his Virgin Disruptor’s roundtable discussion on corporate wellness, and in December 2015, we proudly launched our first corporate Somadome at Adobe HQ in Silicon Valley. As part of our mission to make the world a more peaceful place, we formed a nonprofit partnership with Dr. Oz’s HealthCorps to assist inner city youth in finding their inner voice. We call this our “Pods for Peace” program, and it is the very core of our purpose. My earliest and proudest memory that solidified Somadome’s purpose was from our first prototype. With my background also as a social justice lawyer, I believed Somadome could help at-risk youth develop better coping skills, provide balance and help them achieve a healthier perspective on life. One afternoon, a HealthCorps' teacher who had the Somadome in his classroom was working late. One of his students, a 17-year girl with a history of violent behavior, had barely escaped a fight on the basketball court. Instead of erupting into anger, she ran to her teacher's classroom, banged on his door and asked to use the Somadome. She went in angry and in tears. Twenty minutes later, she emerged calm and smiling. Qualitative research study conducted with the HealthCorps placement indicates a dramatic reduction in reactive behavior, symptoms associated with www.Somadome.com [email protected] stress, as well as improved overall mood and sense of wellbeing. Our Research Advisory Board, comprised of a neurologist, PhD in mind/body anthropology and a medical director at Columbia, are all committed to proving that the proprietary integration of various modalities in the Somadome has positive, immediate and long-lasting biological effects. The company is actively engaging in research-oriented activities to further these efforts, and it maintains a strong IP portfolio around its product and development. Our mission is to make the world a more peaceful place. We know that sounds grand, but we honestly believe that by creating a cocoon of wellbeing that replenishes our minds and bodies, and placing it in accessible environments – we can change the course of human behavior. We invite you to join us on this mission, one moment of stillness and one Somadome session at a time. Warmly, Sarah Attia Founder & CEO www.Somadome.com [email protected]
