Notes from England Council Meeting – 3 October 2012 1 Risk management A review of the Society’s risk management processes for branches and volunteers in England is underway. 140 branches who are involved in the property, fitness and/or events processes have been sent a questionnaire to get their feedback. Jo Duffy (Head of Health and Safety) is benchmarking the Society’s process against other similar charities. 2 Council links to the Board Simon Gillespie has suggested that each Council contribute to the Chief Executive’s update paper for each Board meeting. This will allow any issues to be discussed at the Board meeting and allow the Chair of Council to be invited to speak on that issue. 3 Election of Council Members The following Council Members were elected at the AGM, to take up their roles in January 2013: David Denholm (Hants & Islands) Ian Howells (Kent) John Josephs (North of England) The following Council Members were re-elected at the AGM: Ken Johnson (Lancashire, South Cumbria & Greater Manchester) Rosemary Tocock (Thames Valley) Nikki Young (East Anglia) Council agreed to seek Board approval for David White’s co-option to Council in Cheshire & Merseyside. This will be for one year. V1.0 October 2012 1 Part of the Council Member Cheshire & Merseyside role will be to raise the profile of the role and generate interest in the 2013 election. 4 Volunteer survey Petula Storey gave a presentation on the forthcoming volunteer survey. The survey will be open for approximately one month (from January 2013) and will be sent out by email (where possible) or by post. There will also be a link from the volunteer microsite. Council Members will promote the survey and encourage branches to discuss it at meetings, etc. 5 Goodbye As this was Barbara Williams’ last Council meeting, Ken Johnson thanked her for her support of Council and wished her well in the future. 6 Next meeting The next Council meeting is scheduled for Saturday 8 December 2012 at Jurys Inn Heathrow.
