Department of Geography and Resource Management CUHK Prof. LAI Yuk Fo Derrick Supervisor: Research Are the Mangroves in Hong Kong Significant Stores of Carbon that Help Project (1): Mitigating Climate Change? Project In this project, students will conduct field sampling and laboratory analysis of soil Description: and plant samples to determine the amount of carbon stored in the coastal mangrove wetlands in Hong Kong. Research Project (2): Project Description: How Does Nutrient Enrichment Affect the Production & Consumption of Greenhouse Gases in Wetland Soils? In this project, students will conduct lab incubation experiments to examine the influence of nutrient enrichment on the production and consumption of greenhouse gases in the soils of different wetlands. Research Project (3): Project Description: What are the Effects of Global Change on Soil Greenhouse Gas Exchange in a Subtropical Forest of Hong Kong? In this project, students will conduct field and/or lab measurements to examine the effects of changing temperature, rainfall and litterfall on soil greenhouse gas fluxes in a subtropical forest. Department of Social Work CUHK Prof. KIM Minseop Supervisor: Research Perception of & Attitude toward Welfare States & Social Policies among University Project: Students in Hong Kong: A Follow-up Study Project As a follow-up study of the 2016 SURP project guided by the supervisor, this Description: research project will examine perception of and attitude toward welfare states and social policies among university students in Hong Kong, in order to shed light on longitudinal changes in university students’ attitude toward welfare states and social policies. Students will conduct a literature review to understand relevant theories. Under the direction of the supervisor, they will also collect/analyse survey data, and compare the findings with results from the 2016 SURP project.
