The more you grow, the more you change. In The book The
Giver by Lois Lowry there is a community where everything is the
same, and everyone is perfect. I this community there is a boy named
Jonas who is elected the receiver of memory. Jonas changes from
being a good kid at the beginning to being a rebel at the end of the
book.
At the beginning Jonas has very good and positive traits. First
of all, Jonas is a very obedient kid. Jonas shows that he is obedient
since he follows the community rules. Some of the rules that he
follow are telling the truth, for example he shows that he says the
truth because he always tells his dad what is happening around him
and about his dreams. Jonas is also respectful because he shows his
manners to adults and other random people. For example he shows
his manners to his family while they are eating because he is very
correct. Additionally Jonas is caring. Jonas shows that he is caring
because he went to the house of the old, and in that house helped old
people do things, like taking a shower. After this we can infer that
Jonas is a good boy.
In the middle of the book Jonas becomes a very doubtful
person. First off all Jonas is a very conflicted person Jonas is
conflicted because he is missing information from the giver. Secondly
Jonas is also very curious. Jonas is curious about some memories, and
why did they take them from him. Last off all Jonas is also very angry.
Jonas is very angry because they take all their rights from him. For
example the colors, they can’t see colors. We can now see that Jonas
is changing to be a doubtful person.
By the end of the book Jonas is very rebellious. First off all
Jonas becomes disobedient. Jonas shows that he is disobedient when
he takes Gabriel out of the nursing center. Secondly Jonas is crazed.
Jonas is crazed when he finds out that his father releases (kill)
people, he wanted to release a baby. Finally Jonas is very brave. Jonas
is brave because he takes Gabriel out of the community to take him to
a better place. Due to these various traits Jonas is a very rebellious
person by the end of the book.
The more you grow, the more you change. We can see that
there was change in Jonas. the authors message is to make people
realize that every human changes throughout the time passes by.
