Commission Consider adoption of a resolution and submittal of a Letter of Interest to the State of Florida Department of Health regarding the City s interest in obtaining a Fluoridation grant and the commitment to construct fluoridation systems and to operate them stating s City perpetually following execution of a grant agreement EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The Florida Department of Health Department of Dental Health DOH operates a grant facilitate construction of fluoridation systems for Public Water Supplies The initial step in the grant application process is submittal of a Letter of Interest The DOH has requested that the Letter of Interest include a commitment from the City that the City will program to construct and operate a fluoridation system if a grant agreement is executed BACKGROUND In November 2009 the Hillsborough County Health Department Health Department approached City staff to request that Plant City fluoridate its Public Water System In January 2010 staff presented a report to the Commission outlining the capital and operation and maintenance appropriate MEETING OF for costs use associated with the type of fluoridation system that would be most s water system The Interest The attached draft Letter of Interest fulfills the requirements of the DOH specifically including the request for a statement committing the City to completing the project and perpetual operation of the fluoridation system after a grant application has been approved and grant funds have been exhausted The letter further clarifies that the City s commitment is dependent upon capital costs being paid through grant agreements with the DOH and HCHD FUNDS AVAILABLE Capital will be costs of this Implementation maintenance dollars and paid through grant agreements costs of will project
