SunEdison mining success with solar
SunEdison designed, developed and built one of the largest Solar PV projects in South America for the CAP Group, the main
iron ore and pellets producer on the American Pacific coast and the largest steel producer in Chile. The 100 MW Amanecer
Solar Cap project is equivalent to the electricity needs of approximately 125,000 Chilean homes. The President of the CAP
Group, Roberto de Andraca B., said: “Our strategic alliance with SunEdison asserts CAP’s commitment to sustainability
and reaffirms the company’s support of the renewable energy goals laid out by the authorities. The plant will generate the
equivalent of 15% of our Group’s energy demand.”
SunEdison continues to develop innovative solar energy solutions for the mining industry.
Projects such as the Amanecer Solar CAP installation, are proof that Solar PV and SunEdsion can
compete with traditional energy sources. In addition to the CAP project, SunEdison has signed an
agreement to develop a 69.5 MW Solar PV plant for the Los Pelambres copper mine.

SunEdison created the Eradication of Darkness Initiative,
with the aim of bringing off-grid, solar-powered electricity
to remote communities and regions throughout the world.
SunEdison launched this ambitious program in 2012 with it’s
first off-grid deployment in Meerwada, a remote village in
India. Additional projects are extending electricity to benefit
entire regions.
