SUMMER TERM NEWSLETTER 2015
Dear Parents
The Summer Term is almost over and the teachers and children are getting ready for the
end of term. We would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a wonderful summer
and look forward to seeing you in September.
SCHOOL SHOW
The school show for KS2 this year was “Move It” and took place at Colegio Menesiano
on Wednesday 17th June at 18.30pm.
The children and teachers practised very hard and the rehearsals were very
enjoyable to watch. The children all seemed to love the music and dance and were
so enthusiastic about performing. It was wonderful to see them all so animated!
The plot was about 4 rival dance crews who were competing for a place in a regional
dance competition. There was plenty of drama and music, singing and dancing. The
school organised a professional to come and video the whole show so that parents
could relax and enjoy watching the show without the stress of taking photos and
video. The cost of the video is 17 euros each.
INTERNATIONAL EVENING
The “International Evening”, our annual social evening for parents, took place on Friday 19th
June at 19.30pm. This event is part fundraiser and part social event. A big “thank you” to all
the Year 6 parents and children who helped so much and donated wonderful prizes. We all
really appreciate you giving up your time to help organise and man the stalls. There was a
raffle, bottle stall and Year 6 organised various other fun stalls. The caterers provided tapas
and drinks and parents brought food from their countries to share.
The incredible amount of 2700 euros was made for the earthquake relief in Nepal. Miss Gow
who has been working in Nepal for the past year will ensure that the money goes directly to
those who need it. Most of the money will go into rebuilding a school which was destroyed
during the quake. Many thanks for all your contributions.
Trip to Strasbourg
Some of the Year 6 children entered a schools competition organised by the
Council of Europe. Numont was one of 3 schools to win. The children had
to draw pictures in the form of comics representing various themes to do
with the internet and human rights.
The prize included an all-expenses paid trip to Strasbourg for 2 children
and a teacher. They went on the 16th to the 19th June.
Adriana Preda and Elizabeth Smith went with Mrs Pammy. They presented
their work to a panel of judges and explained the meaning of their
drawings. It was a marvellous experience.
NUMONT SPORTS
The Summer term has as always been busy with Sports Days, Athletics
Volleyball, and Rounders.
th
On May 19 pupils in Years 4, 5 & 6 competed in the Inter- School

Victor Fernandez, Raphaëlle Smith, and Jorge Lopez.
All the children who participated did their best and are a credit to
Numont. Congratulations to all participants.

I Jornada al Reconocimiento Escolar
Two Year 6 pupils received prizes from the Comunidad de Madrid on
11th June.
Very well done both to you!!
Miss Julia also attended the ceremony.
The following are some outstanding pieces of work that 3 children from various classes
wrote about their impressions of this last school year:-
Mis impresiones sobre el curso que acaba
He hecho nuevas cosas, he ido a nuevos sitios, he hecho cosas que nunca hice.

He conocido a nuevos profesores, he hecho nuevos amigos y

nuevas.
He
comida italiana.
¡Feliz verano a TODOS!

EXTRA-CURRICULAR SHOW
The Extra-Curricular Show took place on Tuesday 23rd June at 17.00pm.
Children from the ballet, guitar, piano, basketball and Bollywood clubs performed in front of their
families. It was great to see them displaying some of the skills they had learnt during the year in
the clubs.
The Bake Sale on the 24th April raised 1160 euros
which was given to the library to buy new library
books.
Many thanks to all the parents, children and teachers
for all their efforts.
This term we had another Bake Sale on the 12th June
where 923.50 euros was raised and will be going to
Nepal to help with the enormous problems they have
there in the aftermath of the earthquake.
Year 4 & 5 Bracelets
Some children from Year 4 and 5 made some lovely colourful bracelets from
rubber bands which they sold to other children and teachers.
They made a total of 122.38 euros all of which has been added to the total
of the Bake Sale and will go to Nepal.
Well done to all of you!!
SAN ISIDRO
We celebrated San Isidro on the 13th May. The children came in their “chulapo”
costumes and they enjoyed churros and chocolate. As usual it was a lovely day
celebrating Madrid’s patron saint.
SCHOOL EXCURSIONS
Every term, 2 excursions are usually organised for each class. The teachers choose the
excursions and try and make it relevant to topics they are studying that particular term.
In the Summer term because of the SATs, the school show, and as it is the end of the school
year, the excursions usually include one that is a ”fun” trip. This term, however as it was a
shorter term than usual some classes only went on one trip.
YEAR 6
It’s been a busy year, assemblies, SAT’s, trips and the school show “Move It”.
Mrs Kennedy
The annual disco for Year 6 took take place at ISM on Monday 22nd June in the evening. The
children had pizza and refreshments and met the Year 6 children from ISM. Mrs Gemmell, and
Mrs Kennedy also attended.
Year 6 went to a multi-adventure park on Monday 22rd June as their end of school trip.
Year 5
Year 5 went to the Archeological Museum on June 5th as they have
been studying the ancient Greeks. They went to the Reina Sofia on the
19th to look at works of modern art, especially those of Picasso, which
they studied last term. Endesa came to school and the children enjoyed
the interesting presentation on alternative forms of energy and ways to
protect the environment.
Year 4
Year 4 is nearly over and we have lots of fond memories of our time
together. Roman battles and gods, Indian dances and recipes, songs,
stories, times tables and of course lots of laughs! We also went to
Faunia and did a workshop on the jungle. Also we learned all about
renewable energy thanks to Endesa when they visited the school.
Summer is just around the corner…time to relax, read and re-charge
our batteries, ready for September.
Year 3
Year 3 went to the Geominero Museum and did a “workshop”. They
went to the Botanical gardens on the 19th June to do the “workshop”,
“misterios de la selva”.
Year 2
Year 2 have been to the “Biblioteca Nacional” and done a “workshop”
on “trajemundi”. They have been to visit the castle at Manzanares el
Real. They have been studying about castles and in their Design and
Technology class made one from scratch. This involved planning,
designing and building it, using their knowledge and imagination.
Year 1, Reception and Nursery.
Year 1 went to the Botanical Gardens where they did the workshop
“Pequeños Exploradores”. Reception and Nursery went to Faunia and
spent the whole day there and did the workshop “Interactúa”. Nursery 1
went on their annual zoo trip. They were lucky with the weather which
meant they were able to see all the shows as well as walk around the
zoo and see all the animals.
Reception were also very fortunate in that the police visited the school
bringing with them a police car and a motor bike which the children
took in turns to climb in and sound the sirens.
ASSEMBLIES
Nursery 1 & 2.
For their Summer Show Nursery 1& 2 sang songs about Summer-time,
under the sea, and of course Summer holidays! They had a great time
performing in front of their mums and dads. They were super! Well done.

Mrs Majella & Mrs Marith
Reception A.
The children in Reception A performed an amazing assembly in the
Summer Term. They sang “Happy Sun High” and “Steam Train” as well as
some classic Summer songs such as “Yellow Submarine” and “Hello
Goodbye” by the Beatles.
Well done for a super Assembly!!
Miss Katie
Reception B.
In May we sang some songs about summer journeys. The children
particularly enjoyed singing “Red Sails” and doing the actions for “Steam
Train”. The last song “School’s Out for Summer” was also a big hit and the
children loved being rock stars at the end of the show!
Well done to all of them!
Miss Laura
Year 1A
Year 1A really enjoyed reading the exploits of “Chicken Licken” in class
so much that they wanted to perform it as their Assembly Show. It was
great to see them singing and acting something they loved. They all worked
so hard and I was very proud to see them all doing so well. Well done Year
1A
Miss Cindy
Year 1B
Our Assembly was on the last day of term. We sang the Rainbow Song and
lots of “Under the Sea” songs. The children all enjoyed practising and
loved performing in front of their families.
Very well done to all of them. I am very proud of them.
Mrs Pammy
Year 2A.
Year 2A performed “The Gruffalo". This term Year 2 have been talking
about the author Julia Donaldson and have enjoyed reading some of her
books. The children really enjoyed learning their lines, the songs and to
perform one of their favourite books, each child turned out a wonderful
performance. It was a great success and I am very proud of the whole class.
Well done!!
Mr Marugan.
Year 2B.
Year 2B have enjoyed learning about Julia Donaldson’s books. They
particularly enjoyed “The Gruffalo and “The Snail and the Whale”.
They have been inspired to write and illustrate their own short fiction book
and are very excited to perform their Assembly on Tuesday 23rd June,
which will be all about Julia Donaldson.
Mrs Jessica
Year 2C
Year 2C have been studying and learning all about castles and the role of a
knight. Our Assembly was based on all we had learned. The children
dressed up in princess and knight costumes. They all learned their lines
really well and sang songs and even performed a medieval dance. All their
work was displayed on the walls so parents could appreciate all the hard
work they had done in class.
The children all did really well and tried their best. Well done!
