Article: 309148 Title: Configuring SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition for Use with Fund Accounting This article applies to: Fund Accounting, version 10.2 or higher Question I have purchased Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition for use with Fund Accounting; what should I take into consideration when installing SQL Answer There are certain procedures to follow when installing SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition for use with Fund Accounting. The following information explains how to perform a clean install of SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition in preparation of installing Fund Accounting and how to enable the named pipes protocol. I. Perform a clean Installation of SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition Insert the SQL Server 2008 DVD and select the Installation link. Choose the link New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation. Address problems if any are identified by Setup Support Rules. Enter your product key. Set the checkbox to accept Microsoft’s terms. Click the Install button to deliver setup support files. Address failures identified by Setup Support Rules, if any. The following components are the minimum required by Fund Accounting. If this is the first instance of SQL on the server, it can be a default instance. If not, you’ll be forced to provide a name for this instance of SQL. You may also change the default location of the SQL files on this screen. The SQL installer will check the computer for disk space, click Next. You must supply accounts to start the SQL Server Agent and SQL Server Database Engine. MIP does not require SQL Server Agent to function but it would be used if you are configuring automatic backups through SQL instead of relying on manual backups from MIP. SQL Server must be installed with the default collation which is US English (SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS). If you make no changes on the collation tab, that is the protocol SQL will use. Failure to install using the correct collation (SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS) will produce errors in Display Balances and drill-down reports when using MIP. In this example NT Authority\System was used and SQL Server Agent was not enabled. Choose the mixed mode radio button and provide a system administrator (sa) password. The database engine must be configured in mixed mode to enable Fund Accounting functionality. You many add user accounts as SQL Server administrators; this is not required for Fund Accounting users. Select the appropriate checkbox if you want to participate in Microsoft’s Error and Usage Reporting. These boxes may be left blank. The installation routine will perform additional checks address an failed rules. Verify the features to be installed and click Install. SQL Server 2008 Setup will show a progress bar. The installation will complete indicating success or failure for various components. Click Next. SQL Server 2008 install is complete. The named pipes protocol is disabled by default on Server 2008. MIP clients normally use TCP\IP to communicate with the server, but, if there are problems with the physical network or damaged files on the computer, MIP client workstations may be unable to connect to the SQL Server. A simple solution to this problem, if it arises, it to create a named pipes alias on the workstation so it will communicate with the server using that protocol instead of TCP\IP. (See Knowledge Base article 81056 for information on setting up an alias). The following information illustrates how to enable named pipes on SQL Server 2008. Please be aware it requires a restart of the SQL service to take effect. From the Start Menu, go to Microsoft SQL Server 2008>SQL Server Configuration Manager Expand SQL Server Network Configuration and choose the SQL Server that Fund Accounting was installed on if you have multiple SQL Servers. Right click Named Pipes in the Protocol Name column and choose the Enable option. You will receive a warning that the server has to be restarted. Click on SQL Server Services at left, then right click the SQL Server Fund Accounting is using and choose the Restart menu option the SQL service will then restart. Now, with this protocol enabled, you have the ability to set up a named pipes alias on a workstation if they encounter connectivity issues.
