Press Release from Prospect Hospice: Nationwide team get ready for the mud at Prospect Hospice’s 10k run Date: 3 February 2017 A team of employees from Nationwide are in training to take part in Prospect Hospice’s early season running event, the Prospect 10K, which Nationwide has kindly supported since it was first held in 2013. The team have all signed up to tackle the event on Sunday 19 February, which takes runners out over a tough and muddy 10k course, starting and ending at the Pavilion building just opposite Nationwide’s headquarters on Pipers Way, Swindon. For the first time this year the event has been made even more challenging with the inclusion of a set of optional obstacles along the route, all designed to test the stamina and agility of runners taking part. Among the Nationwide runners taking part this year is Nick Burns-Howell, who will be taking on the event’s notoriously muddy terrain for the third consecutive year. “I’m excited to tackle the Prospect Hospice 10k course again this year,” he said. “It’s a great course for a great cause. Last year a group of colleagues within Nationwide’s External Affairs department and I completed the run as a team, raising over £1,600 in the process. This year we want to improve on, not only our times but also the amount of money we raise. I know Nationwide has supported this important local charity for a number of years now and sponsoring the race is one way of highlighting the essential care Prospect Hospice provides throughout the year.” Nick’s colleague and running mate Anne Huggett agreed: “Not only is the Prospect 10K a really fun, challenging and muddy run, it’s also a great fundraising event. We want to raise as much money as possible for Prospect Hospice so people who are facing the most difficult times of their lives can continue to be looked after and supported in a dignified and caring way.” Organiser Louise Brooks from Prospect Hospice’s fundraising team is thrilled to be welcoming back the Nationwide team again this year. “Staff from Nationwide have been fantastic,” she said. “It will be great to see them lining up again in their Prospect 10K Tshirts. To put things into perspective, the £1,600 the team raised last year could have paid for four patients to spend 24 hours each on our inpatient unit, so all their hard work in fundraising really makes a difference to patients and families in our care.” She added: “There’s still time for runners to sign up for the Prospect 10k – there are details on our website and we are hopeful that with the added challenge of obstacles along the way we’ll see even more people than normal taking part this year. It’ll be tough and, without a doubt, things are going to get muddy!” To take part in the Prospect 10k visit www.prospect-hospice.net/10k About Prospect Hospice: Since 1980, Prospect Hospice has been providing the only dedicated end-of-life care service for the 300,000 people living in our community – bringing care, comfort and confidence, around the clock, every day of the year.
