Checking the MD5 Checksum Value (Windows) 1. Download the file(s) (.zip, .iso. .exe) from the link sent to you by [email protected]. 2. Download and open the MD5Hash.txt file from the link sent to you by [email protected] 3. Download and run the program WinMD5 from here: http://winmd5.com. 4. This program is meant to tell if your download completed successfully. 5. Drag the downloaded file into the empty box below “Select a file to compute MD5 checksum…” or click the “Browse” button to find the file. 6. The program will start to compute the value automatically, it may take a few minutes to compute depending on the file size. 7. Once completed, the box below “Current file MD5 checksum value:” will populate with the checksum value. 8. Now copy and paste the MD5 value located in the MD5Hash.txt document. Please note, some downloads contain multiple files, so the MD5Hash.txt document will contain multiple MD5 values. Please make sure you are copying the correct value. 9. Paste the value into the box “Original file MD5 checksum value…”. After pasting click the “Verify” button. 10. If the MD5 value does not match up you will see this: 11. If the match is correct you will see this: 12. If the value does NOT match you will need to re-download the file(s) from the link sent to you from [email protected]. Checking the MD5 Checksum Value (Mac) 1. Download the file(s) (.zip, .iso. .exe) from the link sent to you by [email protected]. 2. Download and open the MD5Hash.txt file from the link sent to you by [email protected] 3. Run Terminal. This program is already on your Mac. You can find it by searching for “Terminal” in Spotlight. 4. In Terminal, type md5 and then the Space Bar. 5. Drag the downloaded file into Terminal and hit Enter on your keyboard. 6. Depending on the size of the file it will take a couple of seconds to compute. 7. It will then give you a sequence. MD5 (/Users/yourname/Desktop/filename.iso) = bff23ba0b17fd6bf0cac055745c16835 8. The bold sequence is the MD5 checksum value. 9. Compare it to the sequence in the MD5Hash.txt document. 10. If they are different your download was unsuccessful and you will need to download the file again.
