Captain John Brownell For Area VI – Air Representative NGAUS

CAPTAIN JOHN BROWNELL
FOR
AREA VI – AIR REPRESENTATIVE
NGAUS BOARD OF DIRECTORS
23 MARCH 2012
Area VI NGAUS Members:
I seek your support for the Area VI Representative for the NGAUS Board of Directors position. Elections
will be held this year at the 134th NGAUS General Conference in Reno, Nevada during the Area Caucus.
It has been my honor and privilege to serve as your Company Grade Director – Air for the past three
years, which have been historic times in our Guard history. The dedication and hard work of our
membership has led to unsurpassed achievements, most notably a seat at the table for our chief of the
National Guard Bureau. We continue to see trying times ahead, and as your Area VI Representative; I
will continue to fight for our National Guardsmen.
For those who do not know me, I have more than 16 years of service in the Nevada National Guard.
During that time, I have served in various capacities, including joint assignments in Europe and
Afghanistan. In addition to being Company Grade Director – Air, I serve as Chair of the Committee on
Company Grade Issues, as well as the General Conference Committee. I graduated summa cum laude
from Trident University in 2011, with a Master of Science in Health Sciences with an emphasis in
Emergency Management. In 2011 I earned a certificate from Georgetown University’s Government
Affairs Institute, where I learned about the inter-workings of government. I have earned awards for
achievements in the military and the civilian sector, including the Joint Commendation Medal, Joint
Service Medal, Reno-Gazette Journal Twenty-Under-40 Award, and Reno-Gazette Journal People You
Should Know Achievement.
As a NGAUS Board member, I have spearheaded the Officer Professional Development program for the
General Conference for the past two years. I listened to delegates and committee members on current
issues; I have sought speakers that address those concerns. I have worked directly with corporate
sponsors and committee members to raise over $10,000 on behalf of company grade officers to support
the Legion de Lafayette program. Additionally, I have written articles in the National Guard magazine to
promote professional development for our company grade officers.
My leadership philosophy has consistently been Citizen-Soldiers First! We must ensure that our
programs and benefits enhance the lives our Guardsmen and it begins with engaging our membership to
have a unified voice. Through continued officer professional development, we can increase the
knowledge and leadership of tomorrow.
It takes a team to achieve our goals. As Area VI Representative, I plan to engage and represent the region
so that our voice is heard. I would like to continue increasing communications, and I am readily
available. Reno is my hometown and it has many sights, sounds, and taste to offer. I look forward to
seeing you in September and showing you a little bit of Nevada hospitality and I appreciate your support.
Respectfully,
John Brownell
Company Grade Director – Air
